The Coral Springs teen – last year's No. 1 female amateur and back atop this year's rankings – firmed up plans Tuesday to make her professional debut at next month's Shoprite LPGA Classic.
When she tees it up June 18 outside Atlantic City, N.J., she'll be four months past her 15th birthday – younger than Michelle Wie's pro debut. The Hawaiian prodigy turned pro one week shy of turning 16.
"She thinks she's ready," said her father, Scott Thompson. "She tells me all the time at dinner, 'I'm ready, Dad, let me go.' " |
Oh good grief, I don't know about this one, she did almost win the US Amateur last year, and she can putt, that's a good thing. But still, she has 2-3 years to go before she can play full time LPGA golf. Where the heck is she going to play?
Good luck Lexi...
ETA: I'm assuming she can play in Korea, Japan, or Europe, maybe all three, so maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all.
ETA again: Ooops, sorry, here is the link.

ETAIII:
This is a significant point, and maybe this is the kinda stuff the LPGA needs,
In a certain sense, Lexi sorta reminds me of Tiger at 15, they both had pretty loose swings and they both knew/know how to put a golf ball in the hole from frigg'n anywhere. With Thompson, it's her putter, she has a mind set that allows her to mentally put the ball in the hole. Very unusual for such a young female player. Rather nominal for a guy |
