Well, we have good weather here and year long... Water sports are pretty big and you can swim outside even in the winter, which is impossible in some place like New York. I mean, our waterpolo, esp. the men's, are really strong here too.
I'm not surprised at the synchronized swimming. I think the Santa Clara Aquamaids are also here and they're known nationally (maybe internationally?). |

Oprah had a young lady on her show a week or so ago whose name was Oprah Winfry. When Oprah asked the girl's parents why they named her that they said they wanted her to have an inspiring name so they named her Oprah Winfry. No joke, I saw the show.

When Lisa "Lesley" was on Oprah's show, Oprah thought the name of her team was the Liberty.

Todd Rogers of the men's beach volleyball team went to high school & UCSB & still lives in Santa Barbara. He & his partner, Phil Dalhauser train here. Kami Craig of the womens' water polo team is from Santa Barbara--water polo is a high school sport here. The mens' water polo coach is Terry Schroder is from SB too. We have a couple of swimmers too whose names escape me at the moment.

Softball, too.
There's about five just in that pic, and there are several more that are on that list that aren't pictured.
