Longtime AC for Iowa, Jenni Fitzgerald, has retired.

Jenni is 56. Lisa, Jenni, and Jansen have been coaching together for over 35 years. I think she’s done coaching. I don’t think there’s anything to read into her retiring or that Jansen didn’t want her on her staff.

Fitzgerald actually was one of two top assistant coaches for Bluder for many years before she stepped into this new role. My guess is she has also reached the retirement age and years employed at Iowa that the university requires before she can start to receive her pension.

They certainly have been the three amigos over the last 35 years as a coaching staff which speaks highly of the loyalty they have to each other.

At some point when you’ve been in the rat race of D1 coaching, you just want to retire and enjoy your remaining days. Bluder’s top two assistant coaches which were Jansen and Fitzgerald were making over $300,000 a year, so I’m sure Fitzgerald has saved her money wisely.

Jansen and Fitzgerald are from very small Iowa towns so I don’t think they live the highlife in spending and then wearing designer clothing like Dawn Staley or Mulkey’s designer creations she has created for herself.

I hope Fitzgerald enjoys her retirement just as I hope Lisa Bluder can finally sit back and relax.

I don’t think this is a Notre Dame situation where Ivy did not bring Cunningham onto her staff even though they had coached for years together. Cunningham was basically fired from Notre Dame when Ivy took over.
