Is it just me, or is it just the Northeast, or are non-conference schedules this year mostly very regional with one big fancy trip in November or thereabouts? I’ve been putting together my annual spreadsheet, and it seems like the same set of 10 or so teams are all playing each other, and I’m not talking about in-conference.
In related questions, any theories as to the decline of small Thanksgiving/Christmas tournaments? We used to get a scattering every year, but nothing has yet turned up in the area. Is this going to be one of the legacies of COVID scheduling?

Money is a big factor I think. It cost a lot more for teams to host then it would for them to go to a tournament (all of the tournaments I've been a part of big and small paid a portion if not all of travel, hotel and food, plus gifts and/or experiences). So instead of having to pay money for other teams to come they now get to go other places and make/save money in the process or some teams opt to just play individual games to allow for some "down time" for their players/staff enjoy the holidays.

Stanford's schedule is fairly normal, maybe more home games than usual. We always play a bunch of regional teams, Gonzaga, then a couple of biggies. This year it's SoCaro and Tenn, but both at home. And also going to a Thanksgiving tourney in Hawaii, but fairly weak opponents. So overall maybe a weaker than usual lineup. I expect SoCaro to beat us and Tenn certainly could also.
Our team is iffy this year with a solid post rotation and a bunch of Freshmen vying for PG. Could be good, could be a catastrophe. We will definitely miss the solidity of the Hull sisters and Anna Wilson... As well as the transfer out who was the heir apparent to PG.

Mercer's schedules are always like that. This year the Bears are headed to the Las Vegas Invitational to play Colorado State and Texas Tech, two schools we've never met, right after Thanksgiving. Otherwise every game is in Georgia or an adjacent state and nobody is coming here from far away.

Kansas State is the farthest Iowa is traveling for a "true" road game this non-conference. Not terribly far away but still outside of B1G country.
Iowa always plays the three in-state rivals (Iowa State, Drake, UNI), which are great games every year. They're a nice way to have road games without really have to go on the road, since you'll get a good contingent of Iowa fans at all of those in-state arenas.
They've swapped out their usual Cancun tournament for the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament with Oregon State and then UConn/Duke. With the tournament being in Oregon, it feels like Oregon State is the de facto home team even if it's not in Corvallis. It's definitely a step up in competition from who Iowa would usually face at that time of year.
The B1G/ACC challenge will bring NC State to Iowa City this year. Every other year this series would put a true road game on the schedule, but not this year.
The four remaining opponents are Belmont, Dartmouth, Southern, and Evansville, all of whom Iowa is hosting.

JMU is now in the Sun Belt, so their conference schedule has them traveling a bit, as far as San Marcos, TX on one occasion. The non-conference schedule was trimmed a bit and they go no further than Hampton and Philadelphia. They do, however, host Maine at home for their opener (hi, you down easters!) and they also play UNC at home. Other OOC opponents include: Queens (NC), Longwood, Liberty, VCU, MD-Eastern Shore, Eastern Michigan, and the winner of St Joseph's-Wright State. Not an entirely shabby OOC schedule.

All of Michigan’s best non-conference games are on the road or neutral sites. As a season ticket holder, I’m meh about the home offerings.

UCONN's non conference schedule was a juggernaut before Paige tore her ACL, now it's just ridiculous.

I don't see unusual regionality in Tenn's OOC schedule. Most games are the second of a home-and-home pair, small schools that want to play in TBA, or a Caribbean tournament.

Virginia announced its non-conference schedule - which is understandable - it is weak schedule due to the fact that Tina Thompson ruining it all last year with 5-22 record, easily the worst school record in the history.
Virginia will play:
George Washington
UMBC
@Loyola-Chicago
@American
@Campbell
CAVALIER CLASSIC
Minnesota
East Carolina
Big 10/ACC Challenge
@Penn State
UNCW
@William & Mary
Morgan State

Second-year McNeese head coach Lynn Kennedy finished his first year at the helm of the Cowgirls program with a 13-15 overall record, a vast improvement on the 6-16 record under the previous coaching staff. The 13-15 record included a #3 seed in the Southland Conference tournament, as the Cowgirls had a winning 8-6 record in conference play.
Following last year's schedule which saw the young Cowgirls travel to Pac-12 schools Cal and Oregon (horrible results as both were blowout losses), this year's team will take a trek through the Midwest to face a couple of Big 10 schools and play in historic venues:
Illinois - November 16
Bradley - November 19
Ohio St. - November 20
Xavier - November 22
The Cowgirls will finish the non-conference schedule with trips to
SEC Ol' Miss and Big 12 Texas Tech
