Bobby Knight did the same thing when he went to Texas Tech...he met with players and told them they would not play at all for him, as he wanted his own players who were loyal to him and fit his style of playing...many coaches do this every year when they take over a program, they do it with under-tone statements to the athlete, so the athlete either gets the message or not...with the transfer portal you will see this behavior from coaches more and more often. |
Correct me if I'm wrong but the player in question was already on the team and had been playing for the coach already. This would make your example not really fit this situation. |

Yeah depends. Some coaches when they come in, tell you at the beginning that they’re really excited about you, and then you sit on the bench, and at the end of the year they finally are honest and tell you you’re not going to play. The New Mexico coach did this when he took over the team five years ago, and look at his turn over every single year since then.

No coach wants to keep anyone who was on a team that refused to play for her, thus she is going to tell the athlete that they will not play in hopes they transfer out and open up a scholarship....same thing Knight, did to get his own players who SUPPORT and believe in him on the team...that is the same intent as this coach is doing, whether we agree with her strategy or not...yes, he was a new coach, but the INTENT of what he was doing is the same...please leave so I can use your scholarship.
Sort of like a coach being removed from a team, they want to fight for their job back for an institution that does not want them back but is forced to take them back...
not sure why any athlete would want to stay at Detroit after the majority of the team refused to play for her and wanted her to get fired and the did not remove the coach...naive on the part of the athlete to think that she would get any playing time!

Could she take the offer, graduate from UDetroit, then grad transfer to another school?

This story has made its way on to the front page of USAToday. It's a pay article as you can see in the link.

Is that a misprint? "Had won just 80 of its previous 89 games?" if that is so, that wouldn't be too shabby. I figure it has to be a misprint and maybe should be 80 of 189 or something. But something is still wrong with this picture. Why not ask some former VUU players about her?

Not a misprint, just a very strange use of the word, "just." Detroit had been 9-80 over the past three seasons. I'm not sure if the article was corrected but it says "Had lost just 80 of its previous 89 games."

What an absolute s**t show. Two f**ks are not given about their women's program..they didn't even have film of practice so they had to use the men's practice film to see the women practicing in the background? lol!

Does that mean the player they were banning from the team that wanted to play is going to be allowed back on the squad? |

I am sure above and beyond what her contracts is going to pay her out, there will be additional "separation agreement" items such as:
insurance coverage and retirement $$$, as well as additional $$$ paid out for her to leave.
I am sure it also has language that indicates neither party can talk negatively about each other and Detroit will give her a positive recommendation to her next stop in the coaching world...it would also usually have language about no lawsuits in the future.
As a union president for our school district, this is what schools do to have someone go away quietly.
If they were going to fire her, they would have done that a long time ago...this timing is a sign of a negotiated or separation agreement between the two parties
