CTH and I got into a pseudo-pissing match over the Alana Beard quote after the Duke-Tennessee game in 2002. Basically, Beard said she hoped the win would be the beginning of the Duke dynasty. Duke's inability to win a national championship with Beard makes the dynasty comment seem slightly inappropriate, even though it was probably just a moment of exuberation after a big win.
Essentially, CTH posted the Beard quote, while I posted more of the quote and context. This led down a road of barb exchange. What CTH posted was correct...he gave the exact quote. I posted more of context to demonstrate the "moment of exuberation" and to show how the comment could be interpreted as praise for Tennessee and what the LVs had accomplished over the years.
In hindsight, the "dynasty" term Beard used was clearly premature and not really appropriate after one regular season win.

Another of the uninitiated...but she didn't shoot too well last night, my friend. She also got beat defensively, more than once.
But we love our Little Ledge!!!

My signature...an Australian thing.
When Keegan and Luuuc came to Phoenix from Down Under this summer, they had a sign: Penny's a Ledge. Since Jess is Australian, I applied the catchphrase to her.

Except Penny's earned it over time; Jess on one shot that deserves to be forgotten![/quote]
If you gotta be remembered for something, that is really something to be remembered for!!
And, yes, the Aussies do throw the term around a bit liberally...but I like Foley.

Sorry, Bart, but I couldn't remember everything.
I thought you were the one were mentioned an offensive foul called by Sally Bell in that game. It might have been another UConn fan.

My issue with the VaTech game is with June Corteau in 2002. A VaTech player had a breakaway. DT came down the court and had a beautiful block on the Virginia Tech player. June called an intentional foul, and she got ALL BALL. She never eventouched the player, not even one hair on her head. Even hoop agreed with the call.
That call still fires me up, as does Schuie's 10th block in the 2000 NC game. It was a great block on Catch which should have been #10, and Sally blew it. The only thing that makes me feel ok about that is that Bell actually apologized to Schuie that summer for such a bad call on a clean block.

Okay, June. not Sally. I knew it was one of those two! But at least you were able to figure out what I was talking about (given I butchered just about every portion of the story).

"Pseudo"?
This thread convinces me.
Now's the time for all us wimps to start posting on the ESPN board.

LOL - looks like the migration back to the party that sucks, but where the possibility that one might be seen by the right people is greater, has already taken place.
Banal, but predictable..
I know I'm lousy at vows, so I won't make one, but I sure hope I do my posting here henceforth even if nobody else is home.
I'm rapidly losing faith in the sense of the posters over there anyways.
Besides, the Wagner fans will never find me here -knock on wood.

Why are you running from them? Did you say something bad about Lohengrin?

Very clever -lol. Obviously, I mean the horde of trash-talking Seahawk fans that incessantly taunt me on the ESPN board. They're a static bunch, so I doubt they'll change boards on my account.
The lure of this board's quality versus the lure of "celebrity" of that board. This will be a real test of whether or not I've learned anything in my life.

Wow ... nostalgia for me ... Wagner.
I don't really know the ESPN boards ... or this one ... but I am surprised that Wagner has active WBB fans.
But what do I know.
Wagner was the first college I ever rooted for ... a very long time ago. Born and bred on Staten Island was I ... and all us basketball fanatic school kids used to go up Grimes Hill to cheer on Herb Sutter's Seahawks. Talking mens here, of course. Girls played 6-on-6 halfcourt ball then.
Watching Wagner allowed us to see all the great teams in the NYC area. That's when you could ride the bus, train or your Schwinn to most of the away games on the schedule.
Much later watched Wagner again when I was a Marist fan during the Rik Smits era.
I think the Princeton Review college handbook voted Wagner as the most beautiful campus in the US. They're wrong, of course, but there is a great view of the Narrows.

Well Glenn, one would think that a 2-24 record on the women's side would breed a little humility - as i said, one would think.
I must say I'm a little nonplussed running into a poster with an interest in Wagner here. Obviously, I'd normally be suspicious, but I can honestly state that I've never before met anyone online associated with Wagner who posts with such an air of civility.
Never been out that way, but it does sound scenic. Glad I could provoke a pleasant trip down memory lane for you.
BTW, what is the post record for a thread in the wcbb section of this forum? Are we close?
