In case anyone doesn't remember it from back when I used to write stuff, The W Dozen is about 12 random but hopefully interesting things from around the WNBA this week. Featuring lots of videos and images and things so that people don't get upset about having to, y'know, read stuff.
Sample sub-headings this week include "Hammer time", "Oh Dear-ica", "Knees and ankles and backs, oh my" and "Be still, my beating Clark".

Very informative analyses, well written and obvious work in finding illustrative video clips. I especially liked the analysis of the Hammer play, a term with which I was unfamiliar. Ionescu did something in that vein a lot at Oregon, passing to a perimeter shooter while falling out of bounds under the basket.

It's supposed to be weekly, so I certainly hope so.
Thanks for the positive comments, people. And for what it's worth, I wasn't aware why the hammer was called the hammer until I started writing about it this week. |

Week 2 is out, on winless teams, coaches who deserve more respect, WNBA goaltending, crappy broadcasters and plenty more: https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/the-w-dozen-2020-week-2-panic-at

By the way, the worst record in league history is Tulsa's 3-31 from 2011, just in case it should become relevant. In percentage terms, 2-20 would be fractionally better. |

Given the current situation, the column that was scheduled to come out today has been (hopefully temporarily) postponed. However, while this board was down there were two other editions that went out. So...
The W Dozen, 2020 Week 3: Fever torching opponents but still getting burned: https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/the-w-dozen-2020-week-3-fever-torching
Which includes wondering if the Fever are good or not, ridiculous uncalled flagrant fouls, Curt Miller screaming and Bella Alarie praise.
and...
The W Dozen, 2020 Week 4: In a League of Their Own: https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/the-w-dozen-2020-week-4-in-a-league
Which among other things discussed the super Storm, James Wade's extremely good ATOs, stats that make you rethink (or not), and Curt Miller on a bike! |

Fantastic as always. The bit about Parker's defense and the line-up discussions were particularly interesting.

Great work, Richyyy. Lots of interesting tidbits in there (and really appreciated the note about the W and advanced stats).

COY James Wade put in Slooty so she could get the single game assist record. Non COY Derek Fisher did NOT put in Candace Parker so she could get the triple double record and recognition that goes along with breaking a record. Pretty much sums up why Wade got COY and Fisher did not.

Parker has come very close a lot of times, under a lot of different coaches. So it's also possible that she just doesn't give a shit.
Thanks for posting the link again, Luuuc. |

Yeah, and I've got some nice retirement land for sale south of New Orleans...waterfront property...
No matter what any players says publicly, the player AND the team want to be part of breaking records. It's a form of recognition for putting in some very hard work.

I hadn't really thought about it like that, but yeah, I suppose a lot of the players I have higher than you'd expect on an average ballot are Storm players. But then, they're the 7th team in league history to lead the league in both offensive rating and defensive rating for a regular season, so it also seems pretty reasonable.
And yeah, 3 games is never going to be enough to make a team on my ballot, even if it was MVP calibre. But I know what you mean. The threshold is obviously lower for All-Rookie. |
