According to Coach Derek Fisher, Guards Chelsea Gray and Kristi Toliver are locks to start in the backcourt. Fisher also said, Forwards Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike are locked in to start in the frontcourt.
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt was signed to a multi-year contract to provide All-WNBA level defense and corner three-point shooting and the Sparks will also rely on Chiney Ogwumike for tough defense, rebounding and post scoring. |

I'm still awaiting the radioactive fallout from Penny's comments and pending lawsuit. I wonder who Penny wanted to trade Candace for? Having played with Lisa, a former "soft" player who recreated herself as a physical workaholic, Ace's tendencies to disappear in games could NOT have made Penny feel very good about her.

Not to mention Brian Agler has publicly not received any real scrutiny/backlash that I've seen for allegedly having Bill Clinton'd a player... This pandemic capturing the League's attention sure was interesting timing for Toler's lawsuit.

Is Requina Williams still with the Sparks? If she is they could certainly have her mentor Martin.

No, but Riquna Williams seems to be off the hook for her infraction.

Riquna Williams most certainly is still with the Sparks. IDK if Martin makes the final cut, but if she does we sure need to make sure those two have a cerfew. lol. jk

L.A. Sparks' Seimone Augustus may extend WNBA career beyond 2020
Quote: |
"To be honest, my mind is kind of open to coming back," Augustus said in a teleconference. "A lot of that is [based on] if we do have a season, how well I play, how my body feels, how my mind feels. But I'm not closed to maybe playing another season if possible." |

What does a DOBO (Director of Basketball Operations) do exactly?

If a basketball has a problem that requires it to be cut open and then sewn back up, the DOBO is the one that does it.

Sparks sign Sydney Wiese to a contract extension through 2022.

Can report that
@swiesebaby24's extension is two years, $80k, then $82,400. Another underappreciated player, that looks like a bargain from this view. No protection, either, but two-way players with her size aren't easy to find. |

It must be sign-a-2017-draft-rookie-to-an-extension day. Probably not a good sign for Allisha Gray if she wasn’t given a good offer. I wouldn’t take anything below $110K if I were her.

It might be the first time I’ve ever heard Wiese referred to as a two-way player. Maybe it’s warranted, or maybe it’s a stretch; but I will say her defense did look like it had improved since she entered the League. Seems like a good move for particularly the Sparks org., but too, because it’s so cheap, Wiese theoretically shouldn’t have to worry about getting cut due to a salary that’s too expensive to fit in at the end of the cap.

I think experience helps defense more than experience helps any other part of the game. Not only do veterans know other individuals, they know other teams' offenses -- and I think, more important, they know themselves and what they can and cannot do.
I also think the importance of percentages becomes more real the longer you play. Defenders can recognize "Hey I did well but she made the shot," and also "I sucked but she missed," and thus make better decisions.

Your welcome , they all had some great points about re-starting the league and one offs in case someone gets Covid 19.

Seimone Augustus is live on the Sparks Instagram right now. Racks of sneakers behind her.

Indeed WNBA09, they made some great points about restarting... It definitely will be interesting and as much as I miss bball, I would hate to see anyone get sick. The W should not be the first "out the gate."
Thanks for the reminder about Seimone's live, tfan!
So what do y'all think about the final roster?

Gray/Wiese
Toliver/Williams/Augustus
TRP/Sykes
N. Ogwumike/Gulich
Parker/C. Ogwumike/Anigwe
Overall, not bad. Weakness [remains] the 3 spot. Posts got weaker (Vadeeva/Brown v. Gulich/Anigwe). Biggest gain is Toliver who can play both guard positions and hopefully prevent Gray from getting fatigued and overused like Fisher did last year.
Not real big on Anigwe, especially after the incident with Griner last year. I hope she proves that she can contribute. I assume that Vadeeva wasn't planning/was uanble to come over. |

Yes, I've been complaining about the 3 spot for years. I do like Sykes because she is a slasher and LA hasn't had that in a while... I hope Gulich and Anigwe are able to find a rhythm. Should be an interesting year, if/when...
