I think they either draft a PG or a true C at #12. The 2020 draft is loaded with PGs. Assuming they can keep mostly everyone:
PG: Cloud/#12 pick
SG: Toliver/Walker-Kimbrough/Leslie
SF: Atkins/Powers
PF: Delle Donne/Meesseman/Hines-Allen?
C: Sanders/Hawkins

Brunson, McWilliams-Franklin and Howard come to mind, but there must be others. I feel like we might as well just wait for pilight to give us the list . |

Nobody’s yet talking about what the 2020 Mystics will be like if the winningest coach in WNBA history announces his retirement?

Why retire when you’re primed for a repeat?

Because you want to hand your son a great situation?

Because you’re 69 years old and you’ve had some health issues and you have nothing more in the game you need to accomplish.

If he has the same success rate as his dad, you can expect the next championship in about 20 years.

I worry about that, especially since he promoted Eric to Associate Coach. Is he thinking of becoming just GM and letting Eric be the head coach? I hope not!

I genuinely think Thibault will coach as long as his health and passion allows - he has said this team has the most chemistry out of any of his past teams. One could make the "all-downhill-from-here" argument, but I think he rides this wave out as long as it lasts.
As for the 12th Pick, I'd be surprised if he didn't get a PG or CG of some sort. Several options will still be there imo. Toliver's the one that might be content retiring now and really establishing her NBA coaching(/admin?) career.

I hope not too. I am not a fan of nepotism, in any profession.

I'm not a fan of nepotism either. I hope Mike stays a while longer and I get to hear more about Assoc Coach Eric Thibault and his coaching acumen. I think Mike's success as a coach is as much about having solid relationships as it is about X's and O's. A lot of the development of this Championship team is about how players spent the offseason developing the specific skillset Mike identified and presented to them. The fact that they trusted him and spent the time is testament to their relationship. The fact that they were able to develop the identified skillset is testament to Mike's ability to see that potential in each player he picks for the team.
How is Eric at each of these coaching skills? Mike has talked about how he developed his coaching skillset at each of his coaching stops along the way. How is Eric doing at learning each part of being a successful coach? I want to hear more about him specifically before I decide if I want him as Mystics HC after Mike eventually retires.

The history of sons succeeding their fathers as head coaches is not promising.

they already have two centers who can also dribble, drive and shoot fade-away.
