I find it very strange that Lisa Leslie doesn't have a role within the Sparks organization...Especially with LA having two young centers on the roster.

I wonder if some people here have ever even considered the possibility that the problem might not be Candace Parker?

This story is crazy & there is plenty of blame to go around LA.

No its Parker fault that she's so lazy that the whole team got outplayed by a better team & coach. That same team GM didnt have to cuss them out to motivated them to beat LA. CP also played so bad that it caused Gray to have her worst playoff series. Lets lay all the blame on Parker with the same brush she'd uses to laid her baby hair down lol.

When? Everyone pissed and moaned when she was left off the Olympic team but nobody said, "What did Candace do to get left off the Olympic team?" They just blamed Geno. Now, another coach basically told her to stop being an asshole and work hard......and she gets a free pass again. |
She was left off the Olympic team for the same thing, she did not play up to her standards, played lazy etc is why Geno didn't want her back.

Pat Summitt is back! I hate heresay comments. There should be a name to people making these comments or no comment at all. |
In that case, forget Watergate being exposed, the current whistleblower alleging violations of law and policy, and millions of other examples of anonymous sources stepping forward.
I am not surprised people did not give their names (fear of retribution and retaliation, fear of being labeled a snitch, potential implications for free agency signings, etc.).

They have all winter to smooth things over, and you really can't trade Parker, the Flopsy twins or Gray unless they want to go. Williams may not be around to be traded. So what they going to do? Trade Brown, Vadeeva or Mabry? |
For those the believe it's CP and the players fault, Maybe Toler should just blow the team up NBA style and see what she can what get for those four.

Wait-HOW will Toler still be employed? That article is/was so RUGGED that I had a tough time reading it, even after 25 years in the restaurant business where I have SEEN IT ALL! Can you imagine the rookies, Marina Mabrey and Kalani Brown, fresh off graduation from ND and Baylor, with all their success, getting their first taste of a pro post season and dealing with that? I mean, they saw nothing like that in college. I feel so bad for them.
My thoughts:
1. Fire Toler/Fisher
2. Trade Parker and let this be Gray and Nneka's team.
3. Hire Pokey

Candace Parker is a superb player who has been inconsistent over her career. She doesn't work hard at the defensive end, though she is hampered by a long-standing knee issue. She is not the perfect teammate -- but there aren't many perfect teammates, perfect players or perfect people in any organization.
Of course, the haters will jump on her right away, as any bit of evidence to support their narrative will be trumpeted, and I'm sure she does deserve some of the blame for the implosion, given her status and talent.
But she's not the coach. She's not the one who benched Nneka. She's not the one who wouldn't listen to input. She's not the one who gave up on the Sparks.
She's also not the GM. She didn't hire a coach with no experience in the women's game with no other interviews. She didn't sign Riquna Williams. She didn't create an unbalanced roster.
This mess doesn't start or end with Parker. The people who must take the responsibility are Penny Toler and Derek Fisher, and one would hope they are held accountable in some manner. That may mean firing both of them, or it may mean some kind of public mea culpa.
Or ownership could back up the truck, get rid of the players and give Toler another chance to build a franchise and Fisher an opportunity to prove he learned something from a less-than-impressive debut.
It's going to be an interesting offseason in L.A. ...

If she was yelling racial slurs at the team, which she seems to admit she was, it is hard to imagine her keeping her job.

LA Sparks GM used racial epithets in obscenity-laced tirade, Ramona Shelburne reports | The Jump
Rachel Nichols, Amin Elhassan and Scottie Pippen discuss Ramona Shelburne's report detailing a tirade made by Los Angeles Sparks GM Penny Toler after LA's Game 2 loss vs. the Connecticut Sun in the 2019 WNBA playoffs. Questions also surrounded coach Derek Fisher benching star Candace Parker as the team was eliminated. -- ESPN

A #3 seed and making the semifinals is unimpressive? Most first year coaches would love that kind of success.
