It is, unfortunately, very poorly done. |

To be clear in order to devise a usable system you must determine which factors to consider. I believe that games played later in the season should be given more weight, something that most systems do not. |
While the RPI, itself, may not give late-season games more weight, the NCAA tournament committee does.

So I'm a bit curious how a team like UCF gets an at-large. Their claim to fame is losing to UConn. They've only lost three games, two to the only ranked teams they've played and one to Central Michigan, who probably wouldn't get an at large bid if they lose their conference. Otherwise UCF has beaten a bunch of weak teams. Maybe their best win is Villanova who is also not a tournament team. So if losing to UConn is enough to get them into the tournament, couldn't other weak teams claim that as well? How about losing to Baylor? Or Miss St? Or Louisville? Or ND....

Your points are well taken. UCF doesn't have a signature win and unless they upset UConn they will not get one. On the other hand you underestimate Central Michigan who is currently solidly in the tournament and is top 25 in the RPI. Villanova is a team that is just out of the tournament right now. Without a signature win I don't believe UCF can move above a 9 seed, but with their only losses being to top 25 RPI teams and 5 top 100 wins they should be solidly in. Lose two games down the stretch to teams other than UConn and they may have to sweat.

Isn't there a situation where both Oregon schools can get sent to Portland, as 1 and 3 seeds so they wouldn't potentially meet until the Elite 8?
Also, I guess NC State keeps a #2 seed...

If the PAC12 gets 5 teams in the top 16, then yes, they would probably have 2 teams in Portland.
Alternatively, if Oregon St. loses too many games and drops below the 4-seed line, they could be placed in the other half of the Portland regional (i.e., seeds 6 or 7)

Once NC State loses another couple of games, as they are apt to do, I suspect they won't be a #2. They could easily lose 4 -6 games coming up.

I think that seems unlikely. NC State hasn't really earned that kind of seed at this point in the season, and they are likely to lose a lot of games the end the season.

Oh agree it's very unlikely - just thought Creme would have updated (er, moved down a seed line) after the UNC loss.

Yeah, something like that. The NCAA's reasoning is that they want to sell a bunch of tickets in the regional. That's what they said in 2011 when they allowed Baylor and Texas A&M to go on that collision course in Dallas. It was A&M's 4th try against Baylor and they not only won the E8 but went on to run the table.
CC has Louisville as a #1 in Albany? Lucky them, UConn is there.

Sorry. I misread your comment. I thought you meant you thought they would keep it going forward.

Notre Dame's loss puts UConn back on the #1 line for now.

Agreed. Ive come to the conclusion this will be one of the best NCAA tourneys when it comes to parity in years. Im going to go out on a limb and say all 4 #1 seeds wont make the Final 4 like last season and im taking that to Vegas!

agree. it will be extremely unlikely that all four, whoever they end of being, make it to the Final Four.

and I'm guessing NC State will be a 9 or 10 seed after they lose 5 or 6 of their last 7 games.

Oh Charlie, if you have a regional in Greensboro, North Carolina, the committee will put at LEAST one of NC State or South Carolina there. Ideally both. #location #attendancematters
Also Oregon State is #3 seed and should be in Portland.
