It looks like Bill has five relatively easy cuts to make. It's always hard in a personal sense because these are hard working young people who will be really disappointed...but that's the way it works.

Does LV need to sign a PG off the waiver wire, or trade for one until Jefferson is ready? (Colson doesn't see m to be do to well, might be better as an off guard, and Plum and McBride won't be in town to do the lead guard thing for another week or longer I believe).

Earliest is probably the 20th or 21st. Only the first 3 games have been scheduled but maybe awhom has additional insight.

I wonder if Laimbeer gave Swords a guaranteed contract to lure her over? Oops.
If Swords doesn’t have a guaranteed contract, I wonder how obligated he feels towards Swords since he pulled her away from SEA or whoever else.
You know if Nared doesn’t make it, somebody is gonna cry.
I wonder if Laimbeer might cut Holmes or whoever is near the bottom so he can keep William as a backup PG. Then when Plum gets back and up to speed he can cut William (unless she becomes uncut-able) and bring back Holmes.

Nearly everyone that played today for LV is an easy cut |
There's only 8 locks at this point, IMO: McBride, Wilson, Jefferson, Plum, Swords, Young, Park & Bone. Colson is probably 98% a lock due to the uncertainty of Plum & Jefferson. The back-up SG & SF spots are anyone's guess. Hamby is likely the back-up PF.
PG: Jefferson/Plum/Colson
SG: McBride/Holmes?
SF: Young/Coffey?
PF: Wilson/Hamby
C: Bone/Swords/Park |
Slaughter has had a solid camp, evidently:

I would like to see William stay as she is a good point guard. I hope he doesn't keep her if he is going to do like he did with Ivory Latta in Detroit. He kept her on the bench and should have traded her before he did.

Oh, that’s intriguing. I guess Laimbeer likes her after all. She can play point or off the ball. Adds the versatility that they need at the moment. Bye bye, Morgan?

This could be a move to boost attendance....or maybe Bill really sees Shoni as a on court asset.

Also means Katie must have liked her, just didn't have room since I'm sure he would have checked in with her. Happy for her. Hopefully she helps them out, especially here in the short run without Plum and McBride and MoJeff.

Well he does have the experience with her, and he tends to like the players that he’s worked with before.

Aces' weakest spot was back up PG/SG. They can dump Colson, William, Holmes, etc. Doesn't seem like a tough decision.

Why dump Colson now if you’re down two PG’s? I figure Schimmel would back up (or possibly start) at PG or SG. I could see Colson or Schimmel possibly getting dumped when Plum or McBride comes back.

They have a guard shortage until the three, or at least two of the three, come back. Even after that...they have Colson and Shoni as currently the only guards. [Holmes is a SF]. That's assuming Morgan William and Raigne Louis don't make it and based on performance in pre-season, that seems logical.

Seems like the players they like all play the same position: Young, Coffey, Nared(?), Slaughter, Holmes. Some probably have more guard skills than others and are probably needed right now. I could see Young at SG. Coffey?

They'd be better off keeping Schimmel and back-up at SG once everyone is healthy.
PG: Jefferson/Plum/Colson?
SG: McBride/Schimmel
SF: Young/Coffey or Nared
PF: Wilson/Hamby
C: Bone/Park/Swords

I’m trying to figure out what they’re doing on their first game.
Colson.......Jefferson/Plum
Young/Schimmel.... McBride
Coffey/Nared(?)
Wilson/Hamby(?)
Bone/Park/Swords(?)
Laimbeer would benefit with a decent guard cut from the Sparks, but then he’d probably have to cut one of his beloved SF.
Laimbeer is probably cursing out overseas leagues. I wonder if he’s getting some kind of exemption.

Schimmel knows his system, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's the starting PG this weekend.

I always knew he liked Shoni, she has some bad girl in her.
He can cut her when the others get to town or
return to what some of us have been saying all along and trade one of Plum or Jefferson
I still like Jefferson for Rodgers and NY 2nd round pick in 19 (or L. Allen if Boyd is healthy and Hartley and Nurse, Zellous and Prince can hold the fort at PG until Jefferson is ready).
or Plum to Seattle for Minny's 1st round pick in 19 (which would kind of suck for Whitcomb but Plum backing up Loyd seems like a good spot for her).
for now
Colson/Schimmel/Jefferson
Young/Holmes or Nared
Coffey/Slaughter or Nared
Wilson/Burdick
Swords/Bone/Park
2 cuts when McBride and Plum arrive (or 3 when Hamby arrives, is she arriving?)

Aces sign veteran guard Shoni Schimmel ahead of final cuts
https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/basketball/aces-wnba/aces-sign-veteran-guard-shoni-schimmel-ahead-of-final-cuts/
Quote: |
“She can shoot deep,” Laimbeer said Tuesday. “We’re challenged to shoot … Especially without (Kelsey) Plum and (Kayla) McBride. Even when they’re here, we still don’t have very many shooters. If she makes the team, that’s another shooter.” |
Quote: |
Fourth-year wing Dearica Hamby concluded her season in Europe and is expected to join the team Wednesday, meaning 16 players are competing for 12 spots. |
Quote: |
“She knows me, I know her. I know what she’s capable of doing,” Laimbeer said. “She’s in the best shape I’ve seen her in, in years. I think she’s hungry to get back in the league.” |

I think when Plum, McBride and Hamby get back, they should keep Shoni, get rid of Colson, Burdick, then decide on Holmes or Nared, which I would get rid of Nared.
