Dupree going elsewhere seems the most likely. |
No it doesn't

There's only Langhorne and Charles left for core players. Charles seems to be staying in New York. Maybe a Langhorne trade?

Well, now you know the trade, Doug F. posted it.
Gee and it involved the Lynx, and Shades didn't know about it. Hey, but I don't know anything....

I wonder if the cap situation for the Liberty is tight enough that Charles may be saying go ahead and make some deals to get some good players for them and she’ll take whatever’s left over. Just trying to think of why they would delay her signing when it appears she wants to stay with the team.
I’ve noticed they have occasionally promoted in the past that she has donated half(?) her WNBA salary to charity, so she might not worry about getting top dollar. Of course, I’m not sure if has played overseas this season. Kinda hard to take a big tax write off when you’re not making that big overseas money.

I'm still not worried about the Charles delay
I believe if a player is cored they have to receive a max contract.
Maybe after paying Hartley that has brought them close enough to the cap that someone needs to be traded before Charles signs but I'm thinking it is just waiting until they can make a big promotional splash.

What if there's theoretically some type of deal being worked in NY regarding charles ? Still seems strange a player committed to a organization holding out so long to say shes re-signed.

Colson signed by Las Vegas.
I bet Laimbeer was one of those supposedly pursuing Wright (per StarTrib), and then went ahead and signed Colson when the Lynx signed Wright. Just a theory. Don’t go nuts.

Amber Harris remains the only RFA available. Does anyone take a chance on her?

I wrote that elsewhere myself. I think you are completely correct. Colson seems to be a late signing every year, doesn't she?

I was wondering why Colson wasn't re-signed earlier that makes sense.
T. Wright going for the 'ship instead of the mentoring the youth role.
Adding Colson also frees Laimbeer up to move one of Plum/Jefferson. Jefferson not being able to start the season throws a wrench in the works but I won't be surprised to see one of them moved, maybe on draft night.
I still like Jefferson and #13 to Seattle for #5 (If Jefferson looks like she can return to full health)
Jefferson was drafted by Hughes, played 4 years with Stewart, comes from the same system as Bird. If she is healthy she is probably a better fit in Seattle than Canada or L. Brown for heir apparent to Bird. Throwing in #13 allows Seattle to get a post to compete with L. Montgomery for the 5th post spot.
At #5 Laimbeer can take whichever decent sized wing is left between Deshields, G. Williams, and Vivians, they might even start, though I think Laimbeer would give the nod to Young at least at the beginning.
Plum/Colson
McBride/Holmes
Young/#5 (Deshields, Williams or Vivians)/Burdick
#1 Wilson/Harrison/Dos Santos
Bone/Swords
Bird/Jefferson/Quinn
Loyd/Whitcomb
Clark/KML
Stewart/Howard
Langhorne/Paris/#13
#13 Mavunga, a free falling Russell, Gulich (a little high for Gulich but I could see Hughes liking her, Appel-ish)

Based on free agency and the draft I'm making a list of Waiver Wire possibilities. I'm breaking it into two parts list one maybe/maybe not players that could be waived but might make the last couple of roster spots and likely might make it but more likely they won't (I'm also doing this off the top of my head so I'm sure i will miss a bunch).
Maybe/Maybe not
George
Griffin
Banham
Romero (if she comes over)
L. Allen
R. Allen
Zahui B
R. Gray
Cloud
Peters
Hamson
McCall
Pohlen-Mavunga
Hooper
Bulgak
Akhator
Burdick
Hamby
Prince
R. Williams (if not traded)
Weise (if they can't go 12)
Fagbenle (if they get lucky at #17)
Miyem?
More Likely
Laney
Faris
Ibekwe
Alleyne
A. Taylor
Hightower
Gwathmey
Simms
Alston
Dietrick
Epps
Lewis
Coffey
Harden
Peterson
L. Montgomery
B. Richards?
So who would you consider for your team if they got waived?

Did you do a depth chart of each team to arrive at these?

Or if the Liberty actually cut Zahui and no other team wants her.
I think a trade can be worked out for Zahui.

Nope did it off the top of my head but in indy
Wheeler/
S. Johnson/T. Mitchell
Coleman
Dupree/
Alexander/Larkins/Achonwa
that is 8
then you have two first round picks and a very high 2nd round pick which makes 11
then you also have the more likely IMO
Pohlen-Mavunga, McCall and Hamson which gets you to 14
before counting Gwathmey and Simms they could make it but they have to jump the 2nd round pick, Pohlen and each other to have a chance, but they could be maybes instead of likelies I guess
In Washington you've got
Toliver/Latta
Hill/SWK
TRP/Cloud
EDD/Hawkins/Peters
K. Thomas/Sanders
that doesn't include #7 (a perimeter player is the general consensus) #19 or Taylor. Unless Hightower can beat out a decnt first round pick or one of the guars above I don't think she has too much of a chance, if #7 is big and EDD goes to SF that even less opportunity on the wing for Hightower. I don't mind switching her from a likely to a maybe though.
