Week #3 is Shakayla Thomas
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/21664476/florida-state-seminoles-shakayla-thomas-espnw-player-week
Quote: |
Thomas was a standout sixth player her first two seasons with the Seminoles, and then moved into a starting role last year. The ACC coaches picked her as league player of the year after she averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.
This season, she's averaging 22.9 points -- shooting 59 percent from the field -- and 7.3 rebounds. |
Also nominated: Dyandria Anderson, Florida; Samantha Cooper, Fairfield; Alexis Jennings, South Carolina; Tiana Mangakahia, Syracuse; Sara Rhine, Drake; Kristy Wallace, Baylor

Thomas impressed me Sunday, but honestly not nearly as much as A.J. Alix did. And incidentally, JMU out-rebounded Florida State in that game. Sue might have something to say to her team about that.

Alix is a great addition. Sue seems to be able to go out and pull in key transfers that can make an impact. That said, I think Chateice White underperforms or maybe performs as best she can given the style of Florida States play. She seems ill suited for that fast pace style.

White is solid, and is quicker than she looks. When you see her in person you realize she has dropped a LOT of excess poundage. JMU's Kelly Koshuta pretty much gave her as good as she got.

AJ Alix was a 4star top 100 recruit out Houston, TX. She has always made shots and now she make great decisions with the ball. Alix will be a pro after this year.
Shakayla Thomas is a problem. I would take her top ten in the WNBA draft.

Why? She's a great college player, but what would be her position in the WNBA? I'm hoping she goes Top 10 so Reeve isn't tempted to take her at #12.

Could she play as a short wing (5'11"), like Kayla McBride? I know that Kayla is really a 2, but... Of course Kayla has a 3-point shot whereas Shakayla only attempted 3 3-pointers of the 1295 attempts she has launched during her 3.25 years of college basketball. She was 0/3 and the arc is further out in the W so she seems like a woman without a position in the WNBA. Maybe overseas?

Yea Sabrina should have won this hands down. McPhee did a great job , i guess beating UCLA was a big deal . They still lost to Tennessee.

I was not under the impression that gunners racked up double-digit assist numbers.

Streaky Keke hit 19 threes in two games (both wins) this week.

This was truly a week for standpoint performances. A quadruple double. 19 threes in two games. A 30-20 game.
