Cal's Mi'Cole Cayton tore her ACL ... big blow for Cal.
The freshman started the last 12 games for Cal, very good athlete, counted on to supply some sorely needed perimeter shooting.
A thin and young backcourt got thinner and younger.
Tough break for both, no doubt.

This means that freshman Kianna Smith will have to step up right away. Do you know anything about their transfer Sara A. from UTSA. She didn't play in either their exhibition or their opener against St. Mary's.

It's hard for me to believe that someone who was somewhat above average at Texas San Antonio -- with a bad back -- will have much impact in the Pac-12.

In last night's postgame presser Vic Schaefer mentioned somewhat cryptically that Ameysha Williams is no longer with the Mississippi State team and "that was all he would say on the topic at this time". He labelled it personal reasons.
She was the likely backup to Teirra McCowan in the very thin Bulldawg post. Last night saw seldom used Zion Campbell inserted for McCowan and Campbell responded with a double double but it was against overmatched Georgia State.

Tara Cox has a medical release from William & Mary and will have 4 years to play wherever she goes.

It sounds innocuous but totally depends on what exactly is 'sprained'. I had something like that that took 2 months before I could walk without pain...much less play bball. Hopefully hers heals faster.

Soft tissue injuries take a lot longer to heal than fractures. This could be a nasty injury that could potentially muck up the rest of her season.

South Dakota senior G Caitlin Duffy to forgo the rest of her senior season due to injuries. She will continue to work on her master's degree in public administration.

That's 3 players sitting out this season with ACL injuries for Notre Dame. The Irish just cannot catch a break from this injury bug. It seems like the Irish always lose a forward just before we play UConn.

Agree, hope she comes back stronger than ever like Gabby did, matter of fact hope all of them come back healthier, stronger, better.

Ole Miss senior G Shandricka Sessom suffered an ACL tear in the Wednesday night game with MTSU and will miss the rest of the season. I saw her go down and she returned and played some of the rest if the game but at a very subdued level. This is a real blow to Ole Miss as she is very much the team's spark and leader. She didn't play the minimum so will redshirt and return next year.

http://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2017/12/duke-womens-basketball-point-guard-mikayla-boykin-out-for-season-with-knee-injury
Quote: |
Freshman Mikayla Boykin will miss the rest of the season due to a left knee injury she suffered in Duke's 101-30 win against Winthrop last Sunday, the program announced in a press release Friday. Last week, junior Kyra Lambert said she would redshirt and sit out the entire season while recovering from a torn ACL she suffered in March. |
Quote: |
The freshman guard will have surgery to repair the injury, but a date has not yet been set for the procedure.
Boykin was averaging 4.6 points and 3.2 assists per game thus far before exiting the game against the Eagles toward the end of the third quarter. The Clinton, N.C., native was the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina last year and was the centerpiece of a top-10 recruiting class for head coach Joanne P. McCallie.
McCallie has had a run of bad luck with point guard injuries in the last half-decade. Current WNBA players Chelsea Gray and Alexis Jones both suffered season-ending injuries when they were at Duke in 2013 and 2014.
Her absence will put even more of a burden on star graduate students Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell to handle the ball in the backcourt, and redshirt sophomore Haley Gorecki is also likely to continue assuming a bigger role on the perimeter. |

West Virginia Forward Kristina King sustained a foot injury and left the game not to return. X-rays pending. Add her name to the list that includes Tynice Martin and Anna Martin. The Mountqineers did gain the services of tOSU transfer Theresa Eklehar who completed her mandatory sit -out.

She apparently will play Sunday vs. DePaul, but Jackie Young has a broken nose.

This is where the transfer out of Crystal Primm is felt more. But it does solve the issue of who is the PG on the team. No matter who is named PG, Lexie always thinks she is. Last year when PG Kyra Lambert went down, Lexie said "finally I get back to playing my position PG."

It's good for Lexie Brown as far as showcasing to the WNBA. She's a nice size for PG.... a little on the small side for SG in the WNBA.
