Sounds just fine to me too.
My only concern is that it might be too generic a name to stand out in Vegas among all the other shows there. |
Las Vegas Superstars? Would continue the franchise tradition of kinda keeping the same name but endlessly fiddling with it. |

Borders also indicated that Las Vegas is one the top 10 basketball markets.
As the WNBA continues to elevate its profile within professional sports, it is imperative that the league partners with owners that have the infrastructure and resources to sustain a franchise.
In 2016, MGM posted $9.4 billion in sales/revenue, which was a 2.88% increase in sales growth from 2015. Meanwhile, visitors to Southern Nevada contributed $35.5 billion to the local economy – 16.3% more than 2015.
While MGM is among the companies recovering from the mass shooting that occurred during an outdoor music festival earlier this month, it is too early to tell how the tragic event will impact the WNBA’s Las Vegas debut. |

Las Vegas Superstars makes me think it is a show with Wayne Newton, Celine Dion, and Penn and Teller.

How about the Las Vegas Lady Hookers? Quite appropriate for the area.
Nah! Could get confusing for some.
I like keeping the "Stars" nomenclature although I liked "Silver Stars" much better. But, that's neither here nor there...

#VegasStrong has been a heavily used hashtag. How would that be for a team name?

It seems unlikely that the people in the big gold hotel are going to name their team silver anything

I like the name Vegas Strong , but The mascot would have to be a Heavily Stealth woman with big muscles & that would feed into the already crazy stereotype the WNBA has . I can see now "The Strong Lesbos Of Vegas" lol jk jk

Depends on who owns the rights to the phrase, I would think. |

New role with Las Vegas franchise is right time, right place for Bill Laimbeer

What role, if any, Riley might have with the franchise going forward remains to be seen. Laimbeer has a clean slate in that regard, and as he said, he's fully immersed now in finding the right people for the Las Vegas basketball staff. |

The MGM Resorts International logo already kinda looks like a lion in a basketball:
So Las Vegas Lions surely has to be a distinct possibility. |

Laimbeer's "The Man!" Therefore, "In Bill We Trust". Glad the players will be in good hands...

I actually really like that and the various ways it could be used and taken, but I'm not sure a new franchise would want the immediate associations many would have between the name and the LGBT community. There's a significant step between being LGBT-friendly and having a team name that woud conjure up images of rainbows and parades for a lot of potential customers. |

Is the name Stars official now or is it still just an assumption?
Las Vegas Stars is a terrible name. It doesn’t roll off the tongue very well. It’s tough to have a name where the last letter in the city name ends in S and the teams name starts with S. I’ve always been partial to team names that start with the same letter as the city name. Like Seattle Storm, San Antonio Stars etc. Sounds better. That’s why I think they should change the name from Stars to something that starts with either L or V. Vixens is not really an appropriate name for a women’s team, but considering MGM’s logo/mascot is a lion, they should name the team Las Vegas Lions. It rolls off the tongue much better than Las Vegas Stars. Two S’s back to back like that, ick. It’s like saying Las Vegas Tars or Las Vega Stars. The S’s merge into one letter and sounds stupid.
Someone else suggested Las Vegas Aces, which is equally bad. Vegas nearly rhymes with Aces. Say ‘Las Vegas Aces’ a few times fast, sounds terrible.
Las Vegas Lions is the best name and it reflects MGM, the owners. Make it so. |
Good idea!
Las Vegas Venom

I'm still thinking the name has to be a marketing tool a la The Sun
Las Vegas Grand (but they are not playing at the Grand)
Las Vegas Mandalay Stars
Las Vegas Aria
Las Vegas Lux
Las Vegas Metro
Las Vegas Golden (play on Goldwyn)
Las Vegas Golden Lions
I like Las Vegas Pride (but it makes two logic jumps from the company animal logo, to a group of the company animal logo so it isn't obvious enough IMO)
Las Vegas Suites
Las Vegas Knights (play off of Excalibur and nights)
other names that sound like WNBA names but aren't as specific to the casino/hotels
Las Vegas Strong
Las Vegas Hope
Las Vegas Chance
Las Vegas Thrill
La Vegas Luck
