Clarendon is the 7th different player from the class of 2013 to win POW. Only 1999 (fourteen) and 2001 (nine) have had more different players win POW.

Fowles is the 8th player to have won POW for both an Eastern and Western conference team.

Fowles had an awesome week and her team is undefeated, but would've given it to Loyd. Leading the league in scoring while shooting above 50%.

I think Loyd is an above average defender tbh

Yay Layshia!! I've been a fan of her since she first entered the league. The strides she's made since joining the Dream have been amazing. It's great to see her flourish. Also, I follow her on Twitter and I love the voice that she brings for equality and civil/human rights. You can tell she is passionate and informed on her beliefs and to have an athlete speak that clearly and that passionately is nothing but an asset to this league.

I respectfully disagree.Loyd is mediocre when defending the point due to a lack of discipline and defensive technique. She's below average when guarding the sg position due to a lack of size/length,and is susceptible to getting posted up,and giving up offensive rebounds. The backcourts of Los Angeles/Indiana destroyed the storm.
Sparks:Sims/Gray/Beard:40p/17-34 fg
Fever:Johnson/Mitchell/January:64p/23-38 fg
The defense of Clark,Quinn, and KML also played a role.
Washington shot poorly against the storm, but at this point they have zero chemistry on both sides of the ball. The mystics are a team in transition, and it's going to take 10-15 games,or another trade for them to find the right balance.

And again, they give it to the stars and Jonquel Jones has been passed over yet again despite a 20/20 game. Pitiful.

That 20/20 game was last week lol and again Jones shooting percentage for a center is awful.

Is that so? Well, Jones is shooting 46.1% from the field and 50% from 3.
Charles is shooting 44.8% from the field and 40% from 3. Also, Candace Parker plays the role of starting center on the Sparks and is shooting a lower percentage than Jones. EDD is playing starting center for the Mystics and is only slightly higher than Jones. So Jones isn't shooting as high as Olympic players and MVP centers like Fowles, Griner ect. What is your point again? So no, it's not really 'awful'.
So then, explain how a player like Courtney Williams gets overlooked? Not only did she score a career high 23 points and career high 10 rebounds for a 5'8'' guard, her first career double double, shooting a remarkable 10-11 from the floor. Sure she didn't score 37 points like Taurasi did, but Taurasi scoring 37 points isn't that remarkable considering it's Taurasi. It also took Taurasi 15 shots to get 37 points, not to mention she only made 9 of them. I find what Courtney Williams did much more impressive than what Taurasi did.
My point is, the league always awards and recognizes the same few players over and over and over and rarely anyone new even when they have outstanding games. How is the league ever going to grow when the more casual fans only hear about a very select few stars and no one else. Award some newer players when the deserve it and the casual fans might say, "wow there are a LOT of really good players in the WNBA. Maybe I should watch a few more games".

So, she should have been awarded player of the week last week then. The league is supposed to recognize outstanding performances and a 20/20 game, the 16th in the history of the league, should have been awarded a POW award. She also followed that game up with another double double. Sure her shooting percentage might not be Griner or Fowles level, but it's still pitiful that the league has no interest in growing interest by awarding and recognizing talent outside of a select few 'star' players.

Tina Charles now has 23 POW awards, the most in league history
The class of 2008 now has 30 POW awards, the 4th class to reach that mark (after 1999, 2001, and 2004)

Fowles should be the MVP this year if she can maintain her current level of production.

BG can put up 60 pts and 20 rebs and she'd still not get player of the week BUT, she'll get consideration so that's great.

When did the league start naming two Players of the Week?

2007 was when the W started naming two per week

So though she has the most, it's a little bit of a stretch. She has had twice the opportunities each year than players did before that season.
