James Wade nouvel assistant coach d’Ekaterinburg !
https://www.ladyhoop.com/fr/james-wade-nouvel-assistant-coach-dekaterinburg/
Translation of story about Lynx's new assistant being hired as an assistant for Ekaterinburg
Quote: |
James Wade's career as a coach takes a new turn. The former technician of Montpellier will spend the summer on the bench of Minnesota Lynx where he was hired as assistant coach. Then it is in Russia that he will sail next season since he has just been appointed assistant coach to ... Ekaterinburg according to our sources. The husband of Edwige Lawson-Wade joined the great Russian stable after years at BLMA.
Ekat ', which hosts some of the best players in the world (Diana Taurasi, Alba Torrends, Deanna Nolan, Emme Meesseman, Brittney Griner, Sancho Lyttle ...), failed again at the Euroleague final last week and finished 3rd of Final Four in front of USK Prague. The Russian club remains, despite this new failure, one of the references on the European level. It remains to be seen what will remain of the current enrollment at the beginning of the school year.
A good career progression for the former professional player. Does Wade impact on the possible recruitment of a French player, as could be the case with Lisa Berkani's draft in Minnesota? To be continued ... |
I'm not sure how I feel about the new assistant intermingling with opposing team players, but he might be able to scope out some foreign talent.

Shao on a mission in Minnesota

Shao Ting is vowing to make the most of her preseason tryout opportunity with the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. |
Quote: |
Shao and Lynx center Sylvia Fowles have led Beijing Great Wall to two consecutive Women’s Chinese Basketball Association titles.
“The Lynx signed me to take part in their training camp. For me, it’s mainly about learning as I am really looking forward to experiencing the intensity of the highest level of the game,” Shao said before departing for the US on Friday. |
Quote: |
Beijing-based All Star International Sports, the agency representing Shao, later confirmed she was signed to a non-guaranteed deal to take part in the Lynx training camp, which opens on Sunday, and two preseason games next month.
If she secures a contract, Shao will be the fifth Chinese to suit up in the WNBA, after former national team star Zheng Haixia, Sui Feifei, Miao Lijie and Chen Nan. |
Quote: |
Her WNBA trial has earned approval from national team head coach Xu Limin, who also helms Beijing Great Wall.
“China hasn’t seen a player in the WNBA for a long time so I feel really proud for Shao to have the chance to represent China in the US,” said Xu.
“It’s an opportunity to learn and improve, although her stay might conflict with our national team training arrangement. Still, I hope more Chinese players will follow her to higher-level competition.” |

Shao Ting needs to beat out Alexis Jones for a spot basically. Do the Lynx really need both Montgomery and Jones? They could have:
PG: Whalen/Montgomery
SG: Augustus/Perkins
SF: Moore/Shao
PF: Brunson/Pierson/Howard
C: Fowles/Osahor or Fagbenle

A. Jones to SA for The Stars 2nd round pick in 18
SA needs the guards A. Jones would probably be the fourth best guard on the Stars roster (and provides a little security if something weird happens with Plum.)
Minn if they go with 11 and want to keep Shao probably can't also keep Jones anyway so SA could risk it and wait for the waiver wire, but I'm sure Minn would welcome pick #13-18 (being very optimistic) for their first round pick this year.

Naw, it's just a learning experience for Ting. That's why I bolded that.
The first round pick gets a chance or Reeve will never hear the end of it.

New Lynx signing Shao Ting: ‘I think I’m a star, too’
http://www.twincities.com/2017/04/24/new-lynx-signing-shao-ting-i-think-im-a-star-too/
Quote: |
Shao, who arrived in Minnesota days before the start of training camp, has to adjust to a time difference, the Western culture and the highest level of competition the world has to offer. That’s a lot to take in. |
Quote: |
Shao, who signed with the Lynx last week, faces an uphill battle to earn a roster spot in training camp but recognizes this as an opportunity to display the level of women’s basketball in China. |
Quote: |
A translator was used to answer the first couple of questions before Shao was asked if Fowles taught her any English while the two were playing China.
“I can speak English,” she said. “I’m just a little nervous, because I never speak English in China, just to talk to Syl.” |
Quote: |
Is it a little intimidating to practice with such a star-studded roster?
“No,” Shao said, “I think I’m a star, too.” |

I would love to see Ting make the roster. I am all for more international flavor in the W.

More Ting hype
http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2017/04/24/shao-ting-lynx-training-camp/

She’s here largely because of the Wolves’ and Lynx’ new minority owner from China.
“China is very passionate about their women’s league, and China’s very interested in the WNBA,” said Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve. “And so, we thought it would be great if we could kind of designate a spot in our training camp for a player that was interested, and kind of exposing them to our league.” |

We've already got players who are citizens many countries including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Hungary, Turkey, Russia, Slovakia (or is it Slovenia?) and others. And that's just the Americans......
