Shoutout to Katherine Plouffe for apparently making her Djokovic-excuse exemption last for the rest of her season.

awhom111 - I am wonder if you know what kind of travel arrangements players get in the foreign leagues - mainly Europe or Asia? WNBA player argue they are appreciated more overseas and are very unhappy with flying commercial. So I know some of the Russian teams did fly charter but I'm wondering how common that is.

In Spain, after a playoff game Avenida(KLS and Copper) the team returned home on an 11 hour bus ride from a team that was up near the northern border of Spain, thru the Pyrenees Mountains. The players bring mats to sleep on the floor of the bus. Obviously it was an 11 hour drive to the game, the day before, too.

The teams playing in Euroleague fly, as there is no other alternative, but in domestic leagues probably not, except Russia. I would gather Euroleague kicks in some, if not all, of the travel costs

Yeah, the standard in Europe is bus unless it is necessary to fly, either because you are going to places like Ragusa or Sassari, or because timing or distance, especially with international games, becomes a factor. Bus quality varies. The distance between most teams in Russia makes flying more common with only the richest getting charter. When China had a normal format, flying was done commercial and some of those planes are definitely a little scary. Foreign players in China often stay in a Western-style hotel, even in their home cities, which helps take the edge off of what was a very intense travel schedule.

Since Randy did not ask, I think that Egypt uses buses. Mexico has an interesting schedule since most of the local players work regular jobs Monday through Friday so they play back-to-back games on Saturday night and early Sunday afternoon so that teams have enough time to travel.

All those European countries besides Russia are a lot smaller than the US, so flying isn't as necessary. Spain is one of the largest ones. It's smaller than Texas.

Congrats to Avenida winning the Spanish League Championship. 67-62 over Valencia.

Copper had 20 for the winners and KLS had 10
Rebecca Allen had 20 for Valencia

Copper named Finals MVP.

Slightly misleading because it's a Finals Day with the men's and women's finals, so that isn't a number that the women's final on its own would come close to, but still good. Judging by the photos a large proportion did show up early enough for the women's game rather than just skipping it and arriving for the men's final, which is also positive.

At the same time (which wasn't the greatest scheduling in the world) I was on the other side of London with 50,000 other people at the women's FA Cup soccer final. So a pretty decent weekend for interest in women's sport in general.

That would not be a terrible attendance for the men's league final alone either.

I think Luuuc should start a separate WNBL thread for updates. I think they could be a more prominent league with the upcoming WNBA prioritization.

Hannah Sjerven to play for the Flames next season.
