This couple from North Port, FL were pulled over in their travel van while they were exploring the country enroute to Oregon. The boyfriend in this Aug 12 police cam video, Brian Laundrie, returned to his Florida home on Sept 1 without the girlfriend, Gabby Petito. He didn’t let the girlfriend’s parents know he returned home until they found out by filing a missing person’s report on their daughter. The boyfriend lawyered up and they advised that he should remain quiet and uncooperative in the investigation of Gabby’s whereabouts.

The police are now investigating this disappearance in conjunction with the murders of 2 other women, Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner, who were camping in the same area during the time Petito and Laundrie were there.

The BF obviously knows something about Petito's disappearance, but I think it's unlikely she's still alive at this point.

She’s adorable. How tragic. His family is now saying they haven’t seen him since Tuesday.

I can't believe this footage may be the last images her family will have of her. Free spirit. So sad.

Apparently Brian Laundrie is on the run. Why he wasn’t under surveillance, I don’t know.

The police are searching a nature preserve for him, which doesn't make a lot of sense. If he had killed her, unless/until they find her body, he was pretty safe just by keeping quiet, and would have been better off to plan an escape out of the country.

This has made me wonder if someone's pursuing him...maybe he and the GF saw something they shouldn't have, she was killed, he fled, and he has been keeping a low profile because he was afraid the killers would find him.

He was probably getting all kind of nonsense (threats and such) from social media yahoos who have already decided he's a killer.

I think I’d have gone to the police with that one.

I've wondered if she was kidnapped and is being held for ransom and that's the reason for his silence and seemingly weird, abnormal actions when the woman that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with is nowhere to be found.

Otherwise, he had something to do with her disappearance, or at least knows something about what happened to her, in which case, I say find him and hang him.

I've wondered if she was either sold into or abducted by a sex trafficking ring. The police have apparently ruled out a connection to the murders of the other 2 women.

FBI says they’ve found her remains.

If true, (I don't trust the FBI so much anymore) I hope that the bastard feels every bit of physical and mental pain that her family and friends do X 1,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Can someone explain to me why people care about this story so much compared to any other missing person or homicide case?

Because she's white.

Sometimes cases have weird stories that catch on.

Obviously her being a cute white girl is part of it. But this was also some weird circumstances - for one, the boyfriend failed to even pretend like he cared, which was what made it newsworthy. I think we (as a society) also have a fascination with psychopathic tendencies..

Agree with all this and just adding that she was something of a micro-celebrity with 10s/100s of thousands of followers across various social media platforms.

And it had the plot of a lifetime movie. Also, at least what I saw, people were treating the whole thing like a sort of solve the murder escape room. I found the fascination a little odd and macabre.

A lot of people are fascinated by the true crime genre. There are thousands of websites, podcasts, television shows, television networks, books, forums, social media accounts, and god only knows what else devoted to this subject.

The power of social media. This person’s dashcam video maybe have been instrumental in narrowing down the search for Gabby.

Yup.
That said, I do think there's an element of uniqueness to the story, with all of the preceding days being so well-documented on social media, and the fiancee going totally awol.
