Well, well, well... so, after all that transphobia, and performative concern trolling, New Zealand trans weightlifter Laurel Hubbard didn't dominate over the cisgender women, after all. She didn't win gold. She didn't win anything. Didn't even complete a lift.

US women's soccer goes out in the semis

This is part of why it was so disappointing when GB blew it in the quarters against Australia - the US have looked utterly beatable throughout. Others will know more about the personnel than me, but it feels like a US team in need of refreshing. Basically been the same team for quite a while now.

US Soccer is worse than USA Basketball about sticking with players too long

Jordyn Poulter with an ankle injury for USA Volleyball against Italy. Had to be helped off the court. Hopefully nothing serious. Especially after already losing Jordan Thompson against ROC.

Poulter has been horrible, Us actually might be better with the backup. They messed up leaving Carlini off the roster.

in general, I agree, they just looked 'blah' and especially disconnected on their passing, but I actually thought Rapinoe looked like the best player on the US side, so it's not all about age.

I agree. And in basketball as well. We have seen increasing parity but there's still a ways to go.

Sadly, she’s not the first and certainly won’t be the last woman done in by a broken pole.

Another outstanding race in 400m hurdles! Second straight night that a runner breaks the world record, and finishes in second!

This is the 4th time a WR has been set between Syd and Dalilah Shocked

The athletes have talked about that track being bouncier. It's probably a factor in setting all these records. They adjust for wind-aided performance - time to do the same for springy surfaces. Smile

A lot of talk about shoe technology improvements as well. The spikes are better than ever before. Not to take anything away from the athletes, of course - improvement always tends to be incremental in multiple areas.

The US doesn't seem to 'get' it that the relay is about the handoffs. You can have fabulous athletes but if they can't do a handoff you lose. And even with the shitty handoff, the guy running the anchor still was in decent position but totally got out ran by most of the other teams.

Carl Lewis didn't pull any punches!

Women's volleyball and women's basketball will both playing Serbia, in the semifinals, within an hour of each other. Funny how that worked out.

omg. He's 60 years old! How did he get that old? Well, as my friends say, it's better than the alternative.

but on point, he doesn't directly say anything about that poor last leg. Normally the anchor is the fastest guy. Why didn't we have the fastest guy there? Instead we had a guy who finished 6th in the 100 at the US trials. I guess Lewis makes the point indirectly by saying that all the agents want their guy to get a medal. Anyway we got what we deserved.

Watching the shot put, I think Danielle Adams missed her calling. She has/had really good footwork to go with the size. I wonder if she ever tried it.
