The people who run Showbuzzdaily are not sports people so they often miss broadcast network sporting events. I would assume that somebody else would publicize the viewership for the ABC game at some point.

That’s a horrible number for the exciting One and Done Game Confused

In other action, last Sunday’s Mercury-Storm single-elimination game averaged 311,000 on ABC — the most-watched single-elimination game since Lynx-Sparks in 2018 (343K). Sky-Lynx followed with just 111,000 on ESPN2.

9/30 Chicago-Connecticut ESPN2 207,000
9/30 Phoenix-Las Vegas ESPN2 193,000

The second game was higher in the 18-49 demographic in the sample so it technically out-rated the first game.

In a vacuum, those numbers don't look great. But, going head-to-head against NFL football? I'm calling that a win.

Well, going against Thursday Night Football anyways. At this time of year, the games will be opposy football on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Saturday (college). I'm interested to see how tomorrow's games measure up.

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2021/10/wnba-finals-ratings-espn-game-2-viewership-mercury-sun/

Quote:
Tuesday’s Sky-Mercury WNBA Finals Game 2 averaged 789,000 viewers on ESPN, marking the league’s largest audience — regular season, playoffs or All-Star Game — since the deciding Game 5 of the 2017 finals (Sparks-Lynx: 902K).

For reference....

Quote:
Game 2 ranked second among all sportscasts behind TNT’s NHL regular season debut (Rangers-Capitals: 817K). Keep in mind it did not get much of a lead-in from the preceding Mavericks-Hornets NBA preseason game (509K), an outrageous blowout in which Dallas at one point led by 70 points.

Outstanding numbers for a Wednesday night, and not counter-programmed against something huge like the NFL, or College Football. I guess baseball playoffs were last night, but you got to really be a fan of the sport to sit there for 3 hours watching players spit, and get mad when a hitter flips a bat. #snowflakes Laughing

No baseball. It only went up against NHL on TNT and that barely beat them out. This is a VERY impressive number.

Does anyone know what the highest rated telecast of all time is?

Oh good. That's even better news. I know Mike Wilbon always gives the W props, but it was nice to see last night's game in the top 4 topics on PTI today.

Overall very respectable numbers.

My goal for 2021. I'd like to see ESPN2 games average 300k, ESPN average 400K and ABC average 600k and for the ASG to hit 1m.

Very solid growth in viewership and online engagement. Let's see what happens with the new TV deal.

Against Sunday NFL games, this is actually not bad. Wink
