Starting the season with 9?
Shocked

9 is the magic number to be able to sign someone to a roster-hardship contract. I'm guessing they'll bring back Smalls, Goodman, or Fraser.

It would appear the Chicago Sky have waived Brittany Boyd-Jones and the Phoenix Mercury have waived Sara Blicavs, Ciera Johnson, and Tiana Mangakahia.

He means that the players above are no longer listed on their teams' respective roster pages.

Phoenix's roster appears set.

So, is Heal actually with the Sky now? She's on the roster but didn't play in either preseason game. Was she quarantining?

Based on her instagram, she either hasn't left Australia yet or has only just left. So won't be available for opening day, given the protocols once she lands in the US.

The Connecticut Sun have temporarily suspended Jasmine Thomas, as she is not yet cleared to play due to COVID-19 Protocols.

A little surprised by Allen but I guess I shouldn't be

does this mean someone can be in their place until they arrive?

and what is up with Johannes

Ionescu/Clarendon
Jones/Whitcomb/(Baily or Johannes)
Laney/Richards/(Willoughby)
Onyenwere/Odom
Shook/Taylor

no Baily or Johannes and re-sign Holmes as replacement player

or make another cut and go waiver wire shopping?

(I suspect Lavender and McCowan to go off for 40-50 points combined on Friday)

In theory, a team should have 10 useable bodies. However they get there, NY will probably have 10 on Friday -- unless Hopkins feels it's not worth the bother.

I have five teams potentially done - Conn, Dallas, Vegas, Phoenix, Washington - seven who have to do anything from one cut to a crapload of shuffling tomorrow.

Atlanta Dream waived Shatori Walker-Kimbrough
Atlanta Dream waived Mikayla Cowling
Atlanta Dream waived Kalani Brown

2 out of 3 juicy ones.

It’s getting interesting now. The Dream really couldn’t have gotten anything for 6’7 Kalani Brown?

Could a team like Washington afford SWK as is if they cut someone further down their depth chart or do they have to wait for her to clear waivers and offer a smaller contract?

Does someone take a swing at K. Brown?

Does Brown's game translate at all to the Liberty's style?

Kalani is too slow for what the Liberty do on either side of the court.

I still like Mack to Washington. Mike T. had no picks, so this is his first shot at her.

so Atl surprised with Crysal Bradford

Carter/McDonaled
C. Williams/Sims
Hayes/Strickland/Bradford
Hawkins/Billings
Ch. Parker/E. Will

and Chi pulled a PX by bringing in vets with no real chance and giving a spot to a player who hasn't played in the pre-season over a player who performed decently in camp, and messed up our poll by keeping S. Watts

CVS/Heal
Copper/Quigley
Deshields/Watts
NDour/Stevens/Hebard
Parker/Dolson

Does their style involve effort?

Liberty waive Asia Taylor and place Marine Johannès on the full-season suspension list

Which by my calculation puts us at 9 active players

Ionescu/Clarendon
Jones/Whitcomb
Laney/Richards/(Willoughby)
Onyenwere/Odom
Shook

so is Holmes coming back as a replacement player?

or are we doing a waiver wire pick up? (Mack?)

Unfortunately a Mack or a K. Brown doesn’t fit New York’s “style.” I’d be quite pleasantly surprised if the Liberty opted to pick one of those players up, but I’m not expecting any sexy picks for them for final/extra roster spots.

I could see Greg Bibb giving her agent a call.

I am guessing Holmes was cut so they could bring her back

but it will still make the next few cuts more exciting to watch

NY is really going to get to do it's small ball thing on Friday no matter what happens ATM we have one player (a sophomore who averaged 15 minutes a game last season) over 6' 1"

Also New York can't pick up anyone on the waiver wire. You're all of about 1,300 dollars under the cap. Any addition would be via a hardship exception, which means the player has to clear waivers and become a free agent first.

well that makes it even more clear what is going to happen

unless Hopkins really likes someone like Ulich or someone else who is already in free agent status
