Wright State looked like the better team with better players the whole game. But I think under normal circumstances this would have been played in Arkansas, which would have changed the result. Arkansas seemed to start their offense with 24 seconds left like the game was tied. |
Good point. Neutral floors are good for the tournament IMO.

Arkansas was 12-1 at home and 7-9 away from home. Are the baskets at different heights?

Teams play better at home because their fans are in the stands cheering them. They didn't have that this year but still had that the home team didn't have to travel and their opponents did. And being in a familiar arena probably has a positive effect as well.

yeah, every set of baskets 'feels' different which is why you hear players say a particular gym has stiff rims or soft rims. Also the background behind the baskets and the overall lighting make a difference. Home gyms are just more 'comfortable'. You know what to expect and visually you're used to what is there.

Also some floors are bouncier than others, as anyone who's been to Maples can attest

The bouncy floor was removed in the remodel some 15 years ago.
The old floor was indeed bouncy, though.

Yes! Especially for shooters. You always hear about courts that are “shooter’s gyms.” It sounds crazy until you’ve experienced it. Our high school gym had windows behind each goal and other teams hated it. We were used to it, but it makes a huge difference. |

Even with Merriweather’s Purdue history, she’s still going to get some big offers after this. |
I was just messaging someone today wondering if she'd get any interest this year with her show-cause penalty in her past from her time at Purdue.

Tough game between two teams with very different styles. it's worth noting that Arkansas' record is better at home than away though. Wright State is a very physical team and Arkansas is not particularly. And the reffing was a bit questionable, IMNSHO. Or perhaps they just didn't appreciate the difference in style---if it had been two teams of similar style they might have called it differently, who knows.
