Sources have informed @winsidr the New York Liberty have acquired Natasha Howard in a trade with the Seattle Storm in exchange for the #1 2021 draft pick, 1st round 2022 (PHX), and 2nd round 2022 (NY).

Sources have told @winsidr that the New York Liberty have traded Kia Nurse and Megan Walker to the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for the #6 2021 draft pick and 2022 first round pick.

Sources have informed @winsidr that the New York Liberty have traded the rights to Stephanie Talbot in exchange for Sami Whitcomb.

Sources have told @winsidr that the Seattle Storm have traded their 2022 1st round pick (PHX) to Minnesota in exchange for Mikiah Herbert Harrigan.

Sources have told @Winsidr the Seattle Storm have traded the No. 1 pick in the 2021 WNBA draft to the Dallas Wings for Katie Lou Samuelson and the 2022 2nd round pick.

DISCUSS

Apologies to people who wanted to vote Dallas, as their involvement within these trades broke after the poll was already made. Really didn't think all this would happen.

Sources: Terms of Natasha Howard’s new contract, a four-year deal with the New York Liberty $215,000 in 2021, $221,450 in 2022, $227,900 in 2023, & $234,350 in 2024.

Howard's contract isn't the absolute supermax, but it's damn near close to it.

Anyway, my take is that the Storm got fleeced (aka fleeced ourselves) again. Period. Full stop.

A lot to process. Much of this has appeared in rumors in bits and pieces. That it all came together in one huge trade is the surprise. Some quick hits from the NY perspective:

1) NY is hoping Kuier will be there at #6.

2) Despite a bit of a down season, Howard is still being treated close to an MVP level but not quite -- two 1st Round picks and a second. Probably fair.

3) Nurse ends up in Phoenix like a couple of Phoenix writers speculated on WNBA Fans Nation last week.

4) Stephanie Talbot ends up in Seattle where a lot of fans said she belongs. Smile

5) With #1 off the table, I don't have to watch tonight's Texas-Oklahoma State game. Razz

I like it. It was a confusing #6 pick last year, and Reeve must have realized at camp she wasn’t getting the Plenette Pierson type of post she was looking for. Might as well cut the loss early especially if you can get a juicy 2022 first round pick out of it. Trading with Seattle makes me nervous though. They got the best of Reeve last time.

That was the Lynx's fault, not ours.

To be clear, the return basket specifically for Howard (#1 Pick, MHH, New York's 2022 2RP) isn't bad on its own. Not great, but decent. Whitcomb for Talbot though is awful, which makes things sting. (Even if we did need a SF – that's not what Whitcomb is worth!)

Oof. This will take some time for me to process.

So the trade indicates that Whitcomb signed with the Storm, right?

If Howard was completely committed to Seattle, then I don't get trading her. If, however, she was less than 100% in, then maybe that played a role.

For anyone pissed that we get another #1 pick, blame NY. I haven't followed the college season at all. Who are we going to get?

Have always loved the idea of Nurse and Taurasi together. I think she will be an amazing fit in Phoenix!

Now you can get mad if you're a Seattle fan. #1 for Katie Lou and a 2nd Round pick? Shocked

Now, who was it that recently said Valavanis was the best GM in the League? Couldn't. Be. Me.

#1 isn't great this year, but it's not THAT bad.

This has been a heck of a couple weeks.

Heartbreaking to lose Clark.

I kinda understood losing Howard, the writing was on the wall there IMO.

But Sami?! Heart broken again.

And now the #1 pick?!

What is happening?

I'm not sure I like this sequence of trades for any of these teams.

Minnesota makes the most sense. Mad Kiki wasn't exactly what they'd hoped for so they cashed in and got decent value.

Phoenix paid a hefty price for a mediocrity and a second year player coming off of a disastrous rookie season, both of whom play the same position as three of the Merc's four best players.

New York acquiring Howard and Whitcomb is baffling. That's the sort of move you make if you're a contender trying to get over the top. For the Lib it's the difference between winning 7-8 games and winning 10-11.

It certainly seems like Seattle could have done better for Howard and Whitcomb. Maybe the #1 pick will pan out. Herbert Harrigan could turn into something more useful. Right now it's underwhelming.

To be fair, I can't imagine Seattle is making all these moves without the approval of Dan Hughes. Additionally, teams often consult their superstars so it would not surprise me if Sue and Stewie are also on board. That might explain the faith in Samuelson -- Stewart's UConn teammate.

That No. 1 pick for KLS has to be Seattle's own first round pick at the end of the first round, right?

Seattle must believe it is a requirement to to always have an ex UConn wing that uses three initials instead of a name, on their team. They got rid of KML last season so the thought it was essential to replace her with KLS ASAP. Well I will say KLS is certainly an upgrade over KML.

No, the Dallas press release says the number one overall pick.
