Las Vegas overall they had a great season. Congrats Cool

They had huge holes in their team coming into this season, with the loss of Cambage and Plum. Hamby playing great, A'ja playing like a MVP, and Angel fitting in nicely, filled in the holes for the most part, but LV never solved their 3-pt shooting issues, and against Seattle... it just wasn't enough. Confused

After the bubble, I put Sea #1 and LV a distant 2nd... But before the preseason, I ranked LV #1 with SEA a distant 2nd. With all their players back next year, everything should be fine, no real changes need to be made, and they should go back to being ranked #1 where they can try for another Championship, right? Right? Shocked Question

They really really really need one more outside shooter (in addition to Plum). Maybe they find another FA to join the fun. I think if they get that, they will be right there in the mix.

How much better will Jackie Young’s shot get will be a big question? Can’t have dominant posts with guards who can’t hit the side of a brick from 3.

I’m not even sure if that’ll be enough, honestly. I think it’d be in there benefit to completely revamp the perimeter.

Problem is McBride might walk, in which case you're also looking to replace the little bit of outside shooting you already had.

My out of the box idea

super max swap Cambage for Nneka Ogwumike

(assuming everyone is on board) thought process

N. Ogwumike's games is probably a better fit with Wilson than Cambage, LV becomes Wilson's team with McCoughtry and Ogwumike as the support pieces of a big 3
Cambage has wanted to go to LA since day 1, Gray can get her the ball, Parker can move back to the 4 and become the 2nd most controversial player on her team

Plum, McBride, McCoughtry, Ogwumike, Wilson
Robinson, pick 12, J, Young, Hamby, UFA Achonwa, waiver wire

Gray, Toliver, Sykes, Parker, Cambage
Cooper, Weise, pick 10, Vadeeva, Anigwe, Gulich

Vegas gave up a lot to get Cambage. So I don't think they would go along with this trade.

Did they though?

Jefferson, Harrison, pick that became Megan Walker, pick that became Luisa Guiselsodor

Next year will be different but LV got to the finals without Cambage this year

I like Cambage but Wilson thrives without a dominant center Nneka has the three point shooting and handle to stay out of the way while also bringing the defense, rebounding and experience. I can also see Ogwumike thriving under Laimbeer similar to Angel so it just depends on what direction you think gives you the best chance.

I also think LA needs to move on from the Ogwumike/Parker combo to really shake things up.

It could be good for both teams and even all the players involved but who knows. I like it as a speculative concept

Nneka is a better player and will be their every year. Should be a no-brainer.

Nneka better then Cambage Rolling Eyes That Cabbage hate is getting to a lot of people i see..

She can be a annoying whining brat most of the time but she is one of the most dominant players in the world and yes better then Nneka. Nneka is not even in the top 4 at her own position (Stewie, Wilson, EDD, Parker)

Chiney's broadcasting career with ESPN and the NBA is going well.

Next year's schedules for both leagues might overlap again because of Covid messing with the timing so I think it is possible that Chiney decides to forgo the W and sticks with her broadcasting career

agree. Liz is really really good...but the caveat is 'when she wants to be'. With Nneka, you know you get maximum effort every time on the floor. So it's a balance. If you're looking for a one-off championship...which I could see LA going for before Parker ends her career...or a longer term commitment. So I don't see it as that crazy of a trade. Don't think it will happen, but also don't think it's crazy.

Great job, now let’s get back to work.

Plum/Robinson
McBride/
McCoughtry/Young
Wilson/Hamby
Cambage/Swords

Trade Cambage, Wilson needs a Post player who isn’t necessarily ball dominant but keeps defense honest, someone with the ability to hit the 3 would be nice, idk how you handle the package but.. I would get it done. A’ja is a star and needs pieces:
Amanda Zahui B
Astou Ndour
Tianna Hawkins
Mercedes Russell
Elizabeth Williams

Shooters. Outside of A’ja expanding her range a bit and continuing to work on her handles to continue her evolution, this team needs shooters around her, which is why my biggest hopes in the post is that they get someone with a bit of range as well as a defensive big who rebounds(if swords goes back to the bench next season). But we have to have real shooters, McBride as the only true perimeter threat won’t cut it. Angel, having a hot hand won’t cut it. There must be some consistency on the perimeter. Plum will help a lot and take a load off of both A’ja as well as McBride but it wouldn’t help to add:
Katie Lou Samuelson
Diamond Deshields
Betnijah Laney
Tiffany Mitchell

I’m hopeful Plum will be heathy, she and Robinson if both healthy will be great compliments to one another and Robinson could serve her well as a mentor. I still would not hesitate to add an additional guard option:
Alisha Gray
Te’a Cooper
SWK
Ty Harris

Plum/Robinson/Harris
McBride/Gray
McCoughtry/Laney
Wilson/Hamby/Cannon
Zahui B/Williams

Trade: Young, Cambage, Allen
Cambage to Atlanta for Elizabeth Williams and Betnijah Laney?

Young, Allen, #12 to Dallas for Gray and Harris?

Pick up Zahui B in free agency.

Or
Plum/Robinson/Cooper
McBride/#12
McCoughtry/Laney
Wilson/Hamby/Cannon
N. Ogwumike/Zahui B

Trade Cambage to LA for Nneka(and Chaney if healthy) and Te’a Cooper
Pick up Zahui B in free agency
Pick up Laney in free agency
Use Young, Allen, Cambage, and #12 as trade bait in all acquisitions

I like Zahui B to Vegas. I think she pairs well with A’ja.
She gets defensive boards and blocks shots. But isn’t ball dominant, and can stretch the floor for the quick guards slashing and post play of Wilson.
Would she take a bench role/could they afford her if Cambage returns?

Plum/Robinson
McBride/Young
McCoughtry/
Wilson/Hamby
Cambage/Zahui B

175/130?
185?/60,069
190,550/
67,020/119
215/130?

If salaries are around these numbers, they couldn’t afford her with Cambage unless they started the season with 9, which isn’t allowed?

Minimum of 11, and the minimum salary is 58,710.

The Sparks did it a few years ago, so it must be OK

Catching up on some Cambage content from last weekend: (pretty entertaining stuff IMO. Lots of different topics covered)

I’m curious about why Richyyy isn’t chirping up about your listed salary for Wilson.
Is there really a loophole that says Lexie Brown should be making more in 2021 than the #1 pick and MVP, even though they’re from the same draft class?
If there is such a loophole, it’s insane. I prefer to think it must be a mistake.

Here’s what Megdal has for the 2018 WNBA draft class making in 2021,
and these are freshly updated today:
1. A’ja Wilson $67,020
2. Kelsey Mitchell $67,020
3. Diamond DeShields $70,040
4. Gabby Williams $70,040
5. Jordan Canada $62,014
6. Azura Stevens $70,040
7. Ariel Atkins $70,040
8. Victoria Vivians $62,014
9. Lexie Brown $70,040
10. Kia Nurse $58,710
11. Maria Vadeeva $58,710
12. Marie Gulich $70,040
13. Jamie Narad NA
14. Stephanie Mavunga $70,040
15. Monique Billings $70,040
16. Kristi Wallace NA
17. Ji-Su Park $58,710
18. Loryn Goodwin NA
19. Myisha Hines-Allen $70,040
20. Tyler Schaife NA
21. Raisa Musina NA
22. Mercedes Russell $70,040

If you've got at least three years of WNBA service, you get at least the 3+ minimum of 70,040. If you signed a contract before the new CBA was signed that is still running and it has a value below the applicable minimum, it gets adjusted up. Several of those are just wrong.

But it's not like it made a blind bit of difference when we were talking about a nine-player roster.

Doesn't matter what quality of shooters you have around A'ja, the Aces' perimeter offense is never going to get better unless Bill decides to actually use it.
