This might be happening a lot this season for every team.

In this past draft wouldn’t someone like Lexie Brown be a top 10 pick?

It's all about the Benjamins.💵

Reeves said that they were surprised that Davis was still available at #9, and, she was the 2nd player they had on their draft board.

Do anyone have a guess as to who #1 was? Was she hoping that Awak or Collier would fall or Dungee getting a reliable shooter?

Board means everybody, without consideration for how likely it is any given player is going to fall. I'd be pretty confident that Kuier was #1.

That is my belief as well.

A-Rod's $1.5 billion Minnesota Timberwolves purchase includes the WNBA's Lynx — but you wouldn't know it from his statement

Maybe he will give the Lynx to JLo as a goodwill gift.

Sir. That is a slander on the good name of a young man who has been supportive of the WNBA since his days at Washington.

You're thinking of Isiah Thomas.

I know, I know, I'm a pedant.

That might honestly be a best case scenario. I feel like the Lynx are one of the more valuable teams in the league. Their attendance over the dynasty has been amazing. Even in their "rebuild" they've stayed competitive and we won't have attendence records that matter this year. I say find a local owner for them and let the Wolves walk so the Lynx can be the only game in town. They've been the only good game in town for years anyway.

They’re valuable because they have an owner that values them.

I don’t think it’s as simple as that. If they’re not sharing infrastructure with the Wolves, that puts them down at the level of the Dream or similar. I wonder if Taylor or his wife might consider keeping the Lynx, but if they wanted to do that, they would already worked it out as part of the deal.

People will always love and support the Vikings. They’re pretty decent. They’re kinda at the same level as the Maya-less Lynx.

The Wild are pretty good but I’m personally not into hockey.

Minneapolis is a good market for basketball, so I’m not seeing any motivation to move the team. Got a nice arena. Got a fairly new practice facility connected to the arena by skyway. Why leave Minneapolis?

Because if A-Rod can do something stupid, flashy, or stupid and flashy at the same time, he's going to do it. Minneapolis? Not flashy. Vegas? So flashy.

Here's a short article on his vision for the Mets before that bid failed. You might notice a shortage of plans related to the actual nature of the franchise he was attempting to buy.

A couple of interesting comments.

1) it sounded like Shepard will not be there?
2) I kept waiting for a mention of Rennia Davis and it came at the very end.

Shepard has been in training camp so she is available.

I believe that may be what she was referencing. Confused

Thanks for posting, Shades. These press conferences are so much better than the Liberty press conferences. Part of the reason is because the Minnesota reporters ask better questions. Unlike many of their New York counterparts, they ask direct questions without drawn out prefaces to set the context. Also, the questions generally stuck to basketball and training camp. If makes me cringe when NY reporters are asking our 2nd year players how they feel about the Federal government investigating the Louisville police. Maybe in a private interview a question like that could be insightful. But surprising players during a training camp status report is both unfair and inappropriate.

The quality of Reeve’s answers also makes the Minnesota press conferences more useful. Cheryl has done this for years, and she’s successful enough so that she doesn’t seem to have any insecurities. She is capable of being frank and honest while at the same time knowing where to draw the line to protect her players. It goes without saying that better questions and more precise answers results in a much better press conference.

For the rules geeks out there, that first video should be of interest. There’s a discussion of female practice players and why they don’t exist. Along the way, we learn something about the shadowy, seemingly impromptu rules that occasionally crop up. They are found in the “operations manual” and a lot of them are conceived by a lawyer named Jamin Dershowitz – son of Alan Dershowitz.

Yeah the 'Operations Manual' is where you'd find those non-CBA unpublished rules that I mention occasionally. Female practice players not existing makes sense to me, because as Cheryl mentions, they'd essentially be used to try out or retain extra players (and without paying them, or having to count them on the cap). One of the few advantages (in non-pandemic times) of being a women's league is that there's a whole other gender who can provide decent practice competition via their natural physical advantages without having to source people who are actually super-talented basketball players.

But if they wanted to rejig the system to start trying to encourage practice players as development opportunities then that could work too - but requires a lot of organisation and new rules.

Quote:
How long does it take for a stress fracture to heal? Many stress fractures of the foot or ankle will heel in 4 to 6 weeks. However, healing times vary, depending on which bone is broken. Some foot bones, such as the navicular or the fifth metatarsal, can take a much longer time to heal than do others.

Quote:
It takes an average of three months for a stress fracture to heal completely. That means that although you may be able to resume running six to eight weeks after the initial diagnosis, it is critical to start back slowly and increase your mileage gradually to allow the final healing to take place.
