Guess that makes room for Davis.

I'm not happy about the move. I really liked Lexie and thought she could become someone we would use. Reeve better hope that Banham can play "well" again or hopefully Powers, Phee, McBride take her minutes.

But per the release it also says that Ceci will be coming late, so maybe she can take her minutes too.

I hope Lexie finds a team and does well.

I'm sure Sexy Lexie will find a spot somewhere. She started most of the season for the Lynx last year.

I was expecting something to happen, but Reeve couldn’t find a trade partner for Brown? That’s not good.

Zandalasini would also have to sign a contract at some point in order to play. Interesting that on the roster list on that release, she has the little symbol next to her name for players who are going to be suspended, rather than players who'll be arriving late...

So we have
Dangerfield
McBride, Powers
Collier, Davis
Dantas
Fowles, Achonwa

and a whole bunch of question marks. Other than Dean is there a true PG in that mass of guards? Banham has been in the league 5 years. She can shoot threes (period).
Anyway, I would think there should be good battle for those last 3 or 4 spots in training camp. Would be fun to be a fly on the wall for that one.

And even though I've kinda lined them up in their true positions, I would guess the starters will be Danger, McBride, Powers, Collier, and Fowles.

Or it's

Dangerfield/Banham
Powers/Carleton
McBride/Davis
Collier/Dantas/Shepard
Fowles/Achonwa

and virtually no competition for anything.

I noticed that too, but I thought that was a mistake considering this part:

Quote:
*Collier, Harper, McBride and Zandalasini will be late arrivals due to overseas commitments

^Griffin and Moore will begin the 2021 season on the Suspended List

I figured that they just put the wrong mark next to her name considering Griffin has nothing next to hers.

Didn't she sign a contract last year before opting out? Would she have to sign another one for the year or would that one roll over for this year?

It was a one-year deal that has therefore now expired. She's in the limbo state of 'suspended-contract expired' where she's out of contract but the Lynx hold her exclusive rights. The bright side is that that means she currently counts $0 on the cap. If she showed up after Eurobasket, having gone with the 11 I listed above up to then, they'd have room to add her as a 12th player, rather than cutting someone to make room.

Yeah, I think that’s a bookkeeping mistake. They should definitely keep Zandalasini on the full season suspended list. Why cut somebody who’s been dependable for the Lynx (like Carleton) for a few weeks of someone who hasn’t been?

Not sure why they bother with Griffin anymore. The way Reeve pines over certain players. I’m surprised that Anna Cruz doesn’t show up on list. Does this mean the Lynx no longer own her rights?

Lott could be interesting. Some had her as a third round pick.

Atlanta seems to be grabbing for every guard in sight. She should look there.

Reeve stated that Banham will be played as a combo guard this year.

Zero surprise that Lexie was cut. Been trying to trade her forever, but the market was non-existent. As soon as they drafted Davis, knew that she was soon to be sent packing.

I would love it if Washington grabbed her. She's got a ton of potential, but is also a total head case. When things are going well for her she is as good as anyone. But when things go wrong she gets into her own head and her entire game implodes. And Mike T is about the best coach I know of in helping players like that. It's a huge issue, but if some coach were able to fix it...the sky would be the limit for her.

I've also noticed Brown popping up in more and more off-court stuff this offseason (panels, and debates, and interviews - things like that), so I wonder if she's already preparing to move into that side of things, rather than playing.

Is it common for player in her situation, young player fighting for minutes and a role on a team to not play overseas? I know some bigger names can skip the overseas season but maybe that hurt her development if she was focused more on panels, interviews and what have you.

In this past draft wouldn’t someone like Lexie Brown be a top 10 pick?

Even if she would be, it doesn’t change the fact that this this is her last year on her rookie deal, and she hasn’t proven to be worthy of an elevated salary they can’t afford next year anyway.

She was a top 10 pick in her draft

It really varies a lot from player to player. She is the sort of player who would often be earning money overseas, but there are also plenty who prefer assistant coaching jobs, or other income streams/training during the WNBA offseason. And obviously due to the pandemic, more people chose to stay home this year than usual.

Also, depending on what your priorities are, raising your profile as an activist/talking head/whatever can also be worthwhile and ultimately lucrative. Renee Montgomery was on everything last year once she opted out, and that's working out pretty well for her so far.
