Sources: Sparks are finalizing a deal with 2020 No. 3 pick Lauren Cox for the remainder of the season. Sparks also plan to bring back Karlie Samuelson tomorrow and terminated her today to make cap room for both. Pending physical, Cox could be available tomorrow.

But where exactly will Cox find minutes once the Ogwumikes get healthy & Vadeeva arrives? Unless this move for the Sparks is a sign that one or two of those things is now not gonna happen...

Russia ain’t in the Olympics. Vadeeva could have come over already if she wanted. I don’t see her coming this season.

She just finished playing in EuroBasket on the 23rd. Not quite the Olympics, but I'm sure she was more than equally compensated for her time.

Russia’s actual last game was 6/26, so that was only 3 days ago. They knocked off Spain to qualify for 2022 World Cup.

I don’t know if Vadeeva is coming over or not, but she’s probably not as motivated as JJones to rush over. JJones has big individual and team aspirations going on this season.

I'm just over here wondering how much longer it's gonna take for Chiney's knee to stop being "sore". (Most of us including myself have the same questions about EDD's back recovery.) Again, not exactly sure what she did to get it "sore" in the first place, considering the length of the hiatus from her playing career before training camp...

Oops, thought this was a trade for Cox, not picking someone off the waiver wire.

But the Fever probably should pick up career in-the-rotation player Bria Holmes.

If Chiney Ogwumike ever does come back, there are gonna be people surprised she's a basketball player, she's been an ESPN personality/poster of fashion photos for so long.

I get a kick out of seeing her and Nneka in street clothes on the bench. Chiney obviously spends a lot of time on her 'look'. Nneka wears jeans.

The shade of posting this in the Sparks thread.

That's huge. Is this an alternate cover or the only cover?

Great for her. Not deserved on recent play but career wise, it's more than justified. That TNT gig helps a lot.

Bria Holmes’ temporary hardship contract is being waived, according to a source familiar with the matter. Also, Maria Vadeeva is not expected to play in the WNBA this season and Karlie Samuelson is likely to sign a 7-day contract

It's pretty optimistic of the team to not say she's out for the season

I hope Toliver regrets every game of her 3 seasons in LA. As many games as she's able to play, that is. She could have been on a real team, with a real coach in DC - just not for 3 seasons.

Toliver probably would’ve helped stabilize things some in DC, but she wouldn’t have singlehandedly catapulted them back to contender status given the absence of EDD. Assuming Toliver herself would’ve stayed healthy in Washington (which is a somewhat significantly-sized assumption since she wasn't injury-free before this pinky injury this season), it doesn’t seem like the Mystics would be more than a middling playoff team right now with her. On top of that, her re-signing with the Mystics would’ve meant another important piece or two wouldn't have been able to be there currently (like Leilani Mitchell & someone else, salary-wise), in the age of the salary cap.

Kristie never got into her natural flow this season.I believe she had ankle|foot surgery during or after the 2020 season. Her deadly downtown shots never seemed to emerge on a consistent basis. Even her usual attempts to get her shot going by making numerous forays into the paint area to draw fouls and earn practice shots at the charity stripe were significantly down this season. During her best previous years in LA she had proven to be one of the toughest and most durable players ... often averaging more minutes per game than any other player. Granted, sher is older now, but the drop-off in shooting consistency has been quite dramatic. I would hope she makes a determined effort to return to her high standards as one of the best pure shot makers in the league going forward.

Or she's fallen off the cliff, which she is more than allowed to do after 12 years.

I dunno about ALWAYS. There are ALWAYS exceptions. Laughing But if they do, it's understandable. Most of them will have less than a 15 year career, so it's important to make as much as possible in that timeframe...and hopefully invest it well. Most will not get as well paying jobs after that playing career is over...

Any player that does not follow the money has made a BAD business decision.😕

Particularly in a league like the W that doesn't have no-trade clauses
