Washington Mystics: Aislinn Konig – Sign Training Camp Contract
In the Swiss league: 21.4 ppg, 58.7% from two, 48.3% from three, 3.6:2.4 ATO, 2.4 spg

Maybe Thibault has found a ringer.

Did they write in some advantage to retiring? Seems to be an inordinate amount of retirements lately, and not necessarily from old players.

That should clear some space for Meesseman, if it was tight.

Is someone going to unretire or do they go in another direction?

Mystics need to bring in some SF's to camp. Pronto. And watch the waiver wire. Alysha was a key to winning against the best in the league, as Aerial had been. Dare I say it - bring back TRP when she gets waived by LA? She would come off the bench behind Ariel Atkins to play her lock down defense against whoever is the hot hand in the game. Of course, she can't hit the ocean from a boat, which will limit her minutes.

Awful for her.

This is the second season in a row DC has gone out and acquired a player and promptly not been able to use the new shiny. Mystics fans, please stop wishing on the monkey's paw to get your team to make big personnel moves.

Zellous is a decent Clark replacement at sort of the last minute, but I’m not loving the mini-trend of players whom we thought were done in the W last year to being back in it this year (Tamera Young is another). They were already getting older before, and now it’ll have been two years since we last saw them. Don’t think we can expect much, if anything. Why not instead try a younger overseas vet who may not have gotten a legit chance before? These are just stopgap signings, after all.

Still, Kia Vaughn did the same thing last year and she has actually continued her competence in the League – although, she is a post player, so it could be a little different of a dynamic than for perimeter players...

I thought it was going to be Carson but happy for Shavonte

I also won't be surprised to see Washington try to trade its way back into the draft

Washington's first round pick in 22 to Dallas for pick 5 or 7 or second round pick in 22 to Dallas for pick 13 seems very doable on both sides

They could use the pick on a back up SF or slide EDD to to SF put MHA back in the starting line up and get an additional bench postand get a post

I doubt Zealous is getting paid anywhere near what Clark was getting so it does free up money for Meesseman, maybe she'll even be able to sign a regular contract but only show post Olympics

Cloud/Mitchell
Atkins/Leslie
EDD/Zealous
MHA/McCall/(Meesseman)
Charles/Plaisance

Even if you go big sometimes you can still slide EDD back to the PF spot plenty of other times so don't get too hung up on big line up concept, just trying to get the best player on the court most of the time.

(Probably can't afford the draft pick so maybe they don't trade in to the 21 draft).

Apologies for posting something that doesn't have to do with the makeup of the team, but I am a Mystics STH and just got an email from my ticket rep offering to roll over my 2021 season ticket payment toward 2022 because they won't be able to allow all of us into the arena.

I of course rolled my 2021 payments to 2022 (and, in fact, my 2021 payments were actually from 2020, because we obviously couldn't attend games last year, either), and the email does note that I'll be in a list that gets priority access to single-game tickets if/when they become available this year. I assume the hope is that if the virus situation improves, capacity at ESA will be able to rise throughout the season.

I totally understand the situation, but it has to be a financial hit to the franchise to not be getting ticket revenue for two seasons in a row (or maybe it isn't--I'm not sure how many STHs there are). I should add that I am a new STH (well, I was one in 2010, but then Sheila ran me off and I didn't come back until 2019), so it could be that the more veteran STHs will be able to come to all home games as normal this season.

Anyway, just thought I'd share because I know a lot of folks are likely curious to know who might be allowed to attend games in person this year.

One of these days G'mrice will get over the hump and actually make an opening day roster. I believe, damn it!

She was fantastic to watch at Fordham, and I'm glad she keeps getting chances.

Check ur email 09. We got our Wings email before the draft on our options. We’ve been vaccinated and have waited far too long. We’re going to the games. Seating not guaranteed in the same spot and not next to all the friends we’ve made, but still can’t wait to go. All these losing seasons as a Wing and can’t wait for the season to start. Maybe this is the year?!

Back surgery is very serious stuff, and back injuries might just be the worst in terms of athletic recovery.

I've had three players -- all pretty good at the high school level -- hurt their back "a little" one day at practice, and none of them ever played again.

Washington Mystics: Alysha Clark – Non-WNBA Injury – Full Season

It’s official that the Mystics aren’t paying her.

I wonder if they can still funnel her some bonus money.

I wonder if Miller will compete with this move.

The Ace of treys: Surrey's Aislinn Konig plays her cards right, gets WNBA shot

https://theprovince.com/sports/basketball/the-ace-of-treys-aislinn-konig-plays-her-cards-right-gets-wnba-shot

Quote:
Midway through the third round, and the Seattle Storm, who needed a guard to backup the legendary Sue Bird, took Haley Marie Gorecki out of Duke University. At that point, Konig knew the writing was on the wall, even before the Washington Mystics made Texas forward Sug Sutton the final pick of the draft.

The TV was switched off, the ESPN commentary giving way to deafening silence, save for the sound of her younger sister, Mackendra, crying. Konig’s parents gave her a group hug before she pulled away, put on her shoes and walked out into the late summer Seattle evening.
