Teaira McCowan Reaches 500 Career Rebounds, Fastest In Franchise History
https://fever.wnba.com/news/teaira-mccowan-500-rebounds/

Quote:
Drafted third overall by the Fever in the 2019 WNBA Draft, McCowan is no stranger to making Fever history. In her rookie season she set the Fever record for most rebounds in a season with 305 total during her rookie campaign. By the end of her rookie season with 11 double-doubles, just shy of Tamika Catchings’ rookie record of 12 in 2002.

Despite the circumstances that came with the WNBA wubble, McCowan ended her second season with an increase in points per game, field goal percentage and free throw shooting percentage in 2020.

Four games into this season, she is averaging a near double-double with 9.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Just think if they would have consistently started her from the beginning.
She’s started 30 out of 60 games played. Has played in every game... so durable. Career minutes of 21.9 mpg. Finally up to 25.4 mpg so far in 2021.

So, do we need a new coach or a new coach/GM combo?

What suprised me is how consistant McCowan has been from season to season. Her numbers in almost every category are about the same as her career average every season in terms of minute, points, rebounds, TOV, blocks, etc. It seems her problem is she should be improving over time. Sorry this is hard to read, check out the link.

So Fever fire Catchings - who do they hire: Sienko, Pokey, Amber Stocks (I think she was also the Sky GM), Angela Taylor, Penny Toler, someone else?

Fever fire Stanley - who do they hire: Agler, Stocks, Stef White, Pokey, Cooper, someone else?

None of these look particularly exciting, though I would def fire Stanley in favor of White if she would take the job. I don't know if Toler is too radioactive to hire, but she has the best track record of the GM candidates. And as we all know, she is a gifted motivational speaker.

One face saving way to not fire Catchings (which may be difficult being the only person to bring a championship to the Pacers/Fever franchises) would be to make one of the above the Director of Player Personnel.....(Or hire one as a consultant on the sly as the Dream did with Sienko before making him GM/Pres whatever.)

As a #2 Lauren Cox certainly hasn't panned out so far. But she has been injured for much of it.

Found this surprising item on #4 Kyzre Gondrezick's wiki page:

In April 2021, it was announced that Gondrezick and Adidas entered into a multiyear endorsement agreement.

Cox was the No. 3 pick, not the No. 2. I mention that because it has now been misstated twice in this thread.

She has some astronomical number of social media followers. Going #4 probably didn't hurt, but it's more about her look (and looks) than her basketball.

Aaliyah Wilson is probable for tomorrow. Perhaps she's the missing element that will turn the season around.

Who needs youth when you can start players who were borderline all-stars 7 years ago?

Especially when they can carry you to being what is, based on net rating, either the worst or second-worst team in WNBA history (depending on your site of preference).

to me she has always seemed very fragile. Perhaps they've decided she won't ever be healthy enough for long enough to be useful.

Bitch what the fuck

Any writer out there finally wanna do that deep dive/heavy analysis that I’ve been calling for for some time now on the Fever? If there was ever an opportunity for some of these so-called “journalists” that think they/pretend to cover the League, it’s fucking NOW. 😩

Liberty get first dibs, right? I can see them dumping Stokes like they did Clarendon (admittedly it might not be that simple so as to stay under the cap) & snapping Cox right up.
