So I wouldn't do this if I didn't think that, right off the bat, there was something good to post here. But I do think that this is a long overdue thread on Rebkell's anyway. Apparently, the New York Times thinks its long overdue subject matter that they should be delivering to their readers. I agree. So this is from a piece today that is presenting what a few music writers on the paper think are the best songs released this past week. I guess this will be a weekly feature. I like this because I can be exposed to stuff that is at least on the level where it meets the approval of New York Times music writers, as opposed to whatever the hell flies for good music these days.

But... I spotted and saved another similar Times feature that presented the best new music and I think there wasn't an 'of the week' time element involved. Well, other than 'new.' I'll look for that. I like the idea though. I need something to tube feed this shit to me so this is really timely and helpful.

So I have picked the ones I like from the ten or so tracks they've picked. I think the Nikki Minaj tune that starts the article off is a disgrace to the medium of recorded music and the New York Times. I think it's probably payola that put two of her songs at the top of this page. The stuff is shit, as is she.

But I'm not here to go negative. Very Happy But I'd seriously not listen to that garbage in any situation where there are children or at work or if your parents are around. NO matter how old you are. Seriously.

Anyway. I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard there. Surprised that there was anything at all that I would like. There's a jazz guitar player. Didn't like his track one bit. And a piece by Brazilian jazz pianist Eliane Elias. I love Eliane Elias but I don't care at all for this, which was recorded 20 years ago and is just being released now. Probably the reason it wasn't released back in the day is because it sounds like a Chick Corea album from the early 80s. So just in case people listen to the tracks on that page and think I somehow missed the jazz, I didn't. I appreciate that jazz is being included there, but, as I've said many times, jazz is in some deep shit and those two tracks are pretty good examples of why I might think that.

Anyway. Who's throwin' shade? Evil or Very Mad

So these I like. And I think knowing the taste of the sambista, she'll like these, too.

The first track I really like demonstrates something I say all the time. House music will be around forever. And it is always some of the best shit your mind can listen to.

Azealila Banks - Anna Wintour

This is some wild shit here but these are only one minute samples. Sounds like... what's that shit called? Afrobeat? Fela Kuti. Just a little bit but with a lot of other stuff thrown in there. Everything. But it works and I like it.

Okay, I have to admit, this last one is a tad bit mellow for me, but I like it and it's welcome after these last two.

Well, there's an interactive feature on the NYTimes announcing The 25 Songs That Matter Right Now. I'm going to recklessly claim that I might like a couple of them and I've grabbed nine of them on Spotify and made a playlist called NYTimes. Because I have no other way of having anything come to me from current musical trends other than to have it curated for me as being good shit. We'll see. I noticed the clips they use in the interactive are very short and sometimes don't quite reflect the overall track. That's too bad. Some of those slices were hypnotic and taken as a whole the rest of a couple of those tracks can be jarring.

I really like Malamente by Rosalia. So far.

Again from the NYTimes.

Euro Pop

To my ears, at least going by the sound samples posted, some pretty good stuff there.

Don’t come for my girl, Nikki, Jammer. Those are fighting words. Wink

Favorite song right now. Shook - Haley

Haley is, IMO, the best vocalist in current music.

https://youtu.be/1dx7OJTY1Rw

Also really feeling Halsey’s new angry lady song “Nightmare.”

Hozier’s entire album is fantastic (again. Still don’t know how he didn’t win all of the music awards for his last album)

But I especially like “Shrike” “Nina Cried Power” “Sweet music” and “Movement”

I'm really enjoying the new album, Valentine, by Snail Mail. Seems like the album has gotten universal very positive reviews. Still enjoying the latest by Lucy Dacus, Home Videos, as well.

Someone called Adele put out a new album - maybe you've heard of her?

Honestly, it's not doing much for me.

Adele's new album: 3rd best out of 4

Best songs: Hold On, Easy On Me, Love Is A Game, I Drink Wine, Oh My God
Mediocre songs: Cry Your Heart Out, All Night Parking, My Little Love, To Be Loved
WTF? Songs: Can I Get It, Strangers By Nature, Woman Like Me

I just got a Nash Telecaster and I’m naming it Adele. Cause this motherfrocker sings. And I don’t even like Adele.
