9-0 run out of the gate for Tennessee. The Russell and Nared Show once again.

UT still sucks. I don't care how many great classes HW recruits.

What do you do when your entire offense is about perimeter shooting but by all appearances you have no shooters?

This could be a long season for James Madison.

Someone should also teach them that picking up your dribble after one dribble is rarely a good idea, unless you're trying to turn it over.

Excuse YOU. Our offense is not "all about perimeter shooting". The problem is that JMU can't get past Tennessee's defense, which is pretty much to be expected. JMU has some very good inside shooters in Koshuta, Merritt, and Cooper-Williams...if they could just GET there. Not tonight though.

Tenn is just crying out for a junk defense. Slap a diamond and one on Nared and see how the other four do.

You must be thinking of some other season.

They haven't even tried from the opening tip. On the other hand they have taken a bunch of quick early-in-the-clock 3s and made exactly zero of them.
Not to mention several more bricks from the ft line area.

And you haven't seen any other JMU games, so perhaps you should be quiet.

Well there's another quick 18 footer. Got a lucky bounce that time. Gets them up to 9/36 shooting. Rolling Eyes

Yeah I didn't watch their dazzling 4/18 3 pt shooting display in losing to Rutgers. Rolling Eyes

JMU's shooting is pretty poor tonight, but they also have no answer for Nared and Tenn's athleticism is killing them on the boards. They're overmatched in several areas.

Of course. That's expected. But that doesn't really address the "wisdom" of firing away from distance when you have no consistent shooters. 4-18 vs Rutgers, 1-10 so far today suggests the futility of throwing up junk from behind the arc as a focus of your offense. Especially in the first ten seconds of the clock.

This is about the result I expected from this matchup at this point in the season. A 19 point loss to the #13 team isn't the worst that can happen. They are still, as are most teams, getting their act together and trying to figure out where all the pieces fit. And of course they had no answer for Nared. I'll be interested to see how many other teams do.

My main hopes for this game were that the Dukes might learn something out of it, and especially that no serious injuries would occur on either team.
