Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa will be traded to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder Jerry Hairston and at least two minor-leaguers, pending physicals and approval from commissioner Bud Selig and the players' association.

The New York Mets were initially thought to be the best bet because general manager Omar Minaya signed Sosa when he was a teen in the Dominican Republic.

While Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, Baker and Cubs players insisted at last week's Cubs convention that Sosa's presence wouldn't be a disruption to the team, fans weren't buying it. When his image appeared on a video, there was a loud chorus of boos.

Phew, the Mets gave up on that crazy trade idea. Still, their infield is terrible. Not that Sosa would've helped in that particular area anyway...

But the Mets did one thing right...get Miguel Cairo. However, I would start him...he's good enough to. Much better than Jose Reyes and yes even better than Kaz Matsui. David Wright is a pretty good third baseman...

What the Mets don't have is a bullpen. Pedro can't go nine innings, Trachsel, Glavine & the other dude (forget his name) aren't that great. Zambrano likes to break the hands of the opponents (he lead the AL in hitting batters). Kris Benson is OK, but not a star (and overpaid too). No Johnny Franco, no Al Leiter...The Mets are like the Yanks were last year. Some offense and no steady pitching (more like relievers).

However, I'm greatful there's an idiot in the Mets organization that took Felix Heredia. That man is minor league material Smile
