As I said when I posted this on the RU board, it's easy to forget that college coaches spend an incredible amount of time on the road seeing potential recruits, often in places that are not that easy to reach, which means relying on small planes or driving on roads they don't know at all hours. It's something of a miracle that more events like this don't occur. It doesn't make it any less sad, of course, but it's a reminder of how hard these jobs really are.

Devastating. I feel so sad for those coaches, their families, and the OSU women's basketball players, who must be going through just an unimaginable level of grief right now. Condolences to all including everyone here who lives for WCBB.

Our WBB community is small, and I think that makes us feel connected in a way that perhaps some other "bigger" sports don't.

I never met Kurt or Miranda. I never even saw them coach in person. But I just feel sick today from this terrible terrible news.

Budke, born June 3, 1961, leaves wife, Shelley, daughter Sara, who is a student at Oklahoma State, and sons Alex and Brett.

Prayers and sympathy to those who suffered most from this tragedy.

This is tragic news. Budke was such a great guy as well as a coach. He brought Oklahoma State from nothingness to success. He is a huge loss. Such sad news. Crying or Very sad

totally sad and huge loss.
I saw him coach in person while he was at LA tech and he was just a very good coach.
Condolences to both coach's family and the OSU team.

Not sure how OSU will go on this season it must be hard on all their players.

They've now identified the pilot and the other passenger: Olin and Paula Branstetter. Mr. Branstetter was reported to have been the pilot, but his wife also was a qualified pilot. It was their plane.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all those at Oklahoma State. There really are no words.

When I first heard the news this morning on the radio, driving to work, I began to cry. I don't know anyone there and didn't follow the team too closely, but I suppose it hit home because we lost part of our women's basketball "family." Very sad day indeed.

This really stings. Never met Kurt Budke but anyone from Louisiana Tech tends to be awesome bunch of people.

But the plane crashes happened to men's & women's teams at Oklahoma State out of thousands colleges? The odds of this happenstance is ... astronomical. Yet it happened.

Still hard to believe this at all. It may take a long time for OSU to recover from this tragedy, especially women's basketball program.

Shocked Crying or Very sad My condolences to the entire OSU staff and student body. And especially to all involved with the Womens Basketball program. I know they will pull together and get through this season in memory of Budke and Serna.

This is sad.

Anybody know who the player was that they were going to see? She's got to be going through a lot too.
