Who should the Connecticut Sun hire as their next head coach?

Maybe Agler can finally bring them a championship? The whole team is dating each other so it prevents him from getting into that kind of trouble Laughing

Agler's now the AD at his alma mater, Wittenburg. Who knows if he'd want to go back to coaching.

Berube is an interesting choice, especially since Rizzotti is looking at former UConn players, but it's an awkward time of year to hire a college coach.

He interviewed for the Fever HC job and was a finalist. That to me say's he wants to get back into coaching.

Five vacancies, five white coaching hires — the WNBA needs a Rooney Rule

As easy as it is to argue how much of a failure the Rooney Rule has been over the years — at minimum, it serves as a constant reminder of the inequalities that are taking place when it comes to how owners hire head coaches, and points to the lengths that many will go to circumvent, and ignore the rule.

I think the recent rule that allowed an extra assistant coach as long as it was a former-player will eventually lead to more black coaches even without a Rooney Rule. Inevitably a lot of those former players are and will be black, and they'll make their way into more head coaching positions eventually. We've already seen it to a certain extent with Quinn, Wright, VJ etc.

Whether a rule would be a good idea... eh, maybe. The tokenism it can lead to can be pretty insulting, especially in a situation like we just saw in Washington. If they'd been required to interview a minority candidate, what would that have resulted in? Phoning Vickie Johnson and wasting some of her time? Claiming to have considered LaToya Sanders for the head role? But maybe in more typical coaching searches it might force teams to open up their parameters a little.

Change takes time and progress isn't a forward straight line. The W has made a lot of progress in this area. Getting more black women into the coaching pipeline will lead to more qualified HC candidates. Steph White and Eric Thibault have been given a lot of advantages that many potential black coaches have not been given and the way to combat that is not to hire unqualified coaches based on their skin color but to support and bring in more black women and men into the coaching pipeline to build that experience.

It should also be noted that the W now has to compete with NBA assistant coach positions for the high caliber former players. Phoenix aggressively pursued Weatherspoon but couldn't lure her away from the NBA.

I don't think we need more Derek Fisher and Amber Stocks' in the league for the sake of diversity.

Is Curt Miller the GM in LA as well? And, has White officially been introduced as the Sun coach - and is she GM as well?

The Sun finally got around to making White official today: https://sun.wnba.com/news/stephanie-white-named-connecticut-sun-head-coach/

Both Miller and White were only announced as the new head coach, but neither LA or Connecticut have anyone else who currently holds the 'general manager' title.
