Per Winsidr Aryeh:

Sources have informed winsidr that multiple WNBA teams plan on flying over to Turkey to meet directly with Azurá Stevens.

Teams are being more aggressive this year flying overseas to meet with players. Not sure if this has been a thing in past years and it’s just being reported more or if it’s a new tactic in seriousness of the franchises pursuit of a player but I like it as well as who’s footing the bill for these international staff trips lol? I thought franchises were struggling in the red …. Confused Cool Very Happy

The WNBA website has this list up:
https://www.wnba.com/news/2023-free-agency-list/

Here are the players where my literal application of the year of service rules lead to a different number:
AD 3 2
Tiffany Hayes 10 9
Erica Wheeler 8 7
Rebekah Gardner 3 0
Courtney Vandersloot 12 10
Allie Quigley 14 13
Odyssey Sims 9 8
Bria Hartley 9 8
Teaira McCowan 4 3
Temi Fagbenle 3 2
Amanda Zahui B 7 6
Maria Vadeeva 2 1
Kristi Toliver 13 11
Kiah Stokes 8 6
Anna Cruz 3 2
Moriah Jefferson 7 6
Marine Johannes 6 1
Brittney Griner 10 9
Yvonne Turner 4 3
Tina Charles 13 12
Jantel Lavender 12 10
Epiphanny Prince 13 10
Elizabeth Williams 8 7

Some of these are understandable, like wubble opt-outs appear to have been credited with a year of service and giving Griner last year. They also seem to never apply the not show up for 21 days rules. Some of these are blatantly wrong, like Gardner and Johannes.

And the plot thickens. This season is definitely shaping up to be an inflection point for the league. It will be interesting to see how it all goes down....

I always thought the perennial speculation of Parker signing with Chicago was a pipe dream and then she did it. I also was very skeptical of the buzz about her signing with the Aces and now she's doing it. Parker keeps proving my skepticism wrong.

I kind of wonder what her function on the team will be.

I imagine the older players will defect and hopefully Chicago can do an accelerated rebuild around Copper.

It's giving very that. I respected her move to Chicago because of hometown connection and she joined a team that just wasn't getting over the hump despite their yearly buzz as a contender.

Now, she's jumping onto the current champions. What does that prove? Meh, I guess Vegas are entering their villain mode.

It's giving nothing like that. Kevin Durant 1) had no rings, and 2) went to the team that had eliminated him from the playoffs, the season before. Neither of those things apply to Candace Parker.

Of course Candace to the Aces is not a carbon copy of Durant to GS but there are enough similarities for it to be giving very that. It's joinging a team that does not need your talent to win a championship (just like Durant joining GS). Good for her and good for him but it's not for me, so please allow me to #hatehard for my own reasons regardless of their logic.

If they vet minimum Zahui b (who can’t negotiate with anyone else because of her suspended contract last season) and then add another vet minimum they can give Parker around 150k ( or 160k if they go minimum / minimum) she could also take a little less say 125k if they want to give Stokes say 100k

It’s giving ultra-accomplished pop star with years of experience who embarks on a Vegas residency to end their touring career…

…so for example, one could say, it’s giving Cher 😜

That is actually fucking hilarious.

I actually really like Candace and like the Aces. I just don't like moves like this. I'd rather watch Parker compete against the Aces than play for them.
