Lady Vol F Marta Suârez is transferring. She was injured part of her sophomore year and took half of this year off as her mother has breast cancer. She has two years left. She'd be a really nice get for someone.

i wonder how many transfers we will see out of Tennessee with all the ones returning for that extra year of elgibility

Is anyone returning beside Jackson and Key?

When Jasmine Powell announced her transfer to Tennessee, she said she planned to use her two years of remaining eligibility, but she hasn’t said anything to confirm whether or not that’s still true.

Senior Jessie Rennie, who red-shirted this year and barely played the previous couple of years, could return, but I don’t think that would impact anyone else’s decision to stay or transfer.

Per knoxnews, Rennie is graduating/leaving. With Walker +/- Powell leaving, and Rennie, Miles, Wynn, and Darby Jr not being very useful, Tenn really needs Wells and at least one other decent guard. The departure of Horston, Walker, Rennie, Suarez, Franklin, and maybe Powell leave a lot of space on the roster.

Powell has confirmed that she is staying!

PRBaller, one good thing about Virginia Head Coach Mox, she has repeatedly said that it is important to recruit the players from its own state to come to Virginia. She got Samantha Brunelle, Olivia McGhee and Kymora Johnson. Jada Walker may be the next one. I hope.

If she needs a PG, that is.

Brenda loses anywhere from 4-6 every year. Every year. Even before the transfer madness revolving door started. What does that say? Is it the school or is it her?

Per Raoul, Nylah Young (5-11 JR forward, Suffolk, VA) has announced her entry into the portal, out of Hampton WBB; in 2022-23, she was their leader in scoring (14.1 PPG), rebounds (6.0/game), steals (60), and blocks (27); third-team All-CAA.

She’s a great player - imagine she’s going to a slightly bigger stage next. Dang. Tony Bozella (sp?) her coach at Seton Hall was has always raved about her. Sounds like a program will get lucky, betting it’s of the ACC or SEC variety.

Per Raoul: Western Michigan WBB transfer Taylor Williams (6-2 RS JR forward, New Baltimore, MI) has announced her commitment to Michigan; 2022-23 stats: 14.7 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 46 blocks; honorable mention All-Mac, All-Mac Defensive Team

I'm pretty sure that Jakia Brown Turner is the girlfriend of Villanova men's player Justin Moore, who just announced his return for his 5th year. I'm totally speculating here, but that would be a huge pick up for Denise Dillon...

And Duke needs 2 PG's. And a couple of post players. And some shooters.

portal continues to make me sad; FDU's best player, Chloe Wilson, just entered, because apparently schools I like are not allowed to keep good players

Per Raoul, KK Deans (5'8 Sr PG, Greensboro, NC) and Jordyn Merrit (6'3 Jr F, Plano, TX) are in the portal out of Florida. Deans should be a grad transfer and eligible to play immediately although she played for WVU prior to coming to the Gators.

That’s a good question. I don’t think it’s the school. Kids get caught up is what coaches say verses what they actually do. This is why it’s important for a coach to be honest from the beginning about playing time and their plans for development. Kids should also be realistic as to what level they can actually play at instead of being steered to a program by a coach who is looking out for their own interests. If a kid wants to play right away, look at the roster and look at who they have signed at their position. That will tell you what you need to know as to if you’re going to play. Look at Ashley Owusu. She was playing at Maryland and got her plenty of playing time. Something must have happened with her and Freese for her to leave. She goes to Virginia Tech, gets injured and never plays. Had she went somewhere else, she would have got to play.

In another thread, or maybe it was somewhere else where Owusu and Reese were being discussed r/t Maryland, it was brought up that Brenda had said that last year (21-22) there was too much "ME over WE" in the locker room, and most people took that to mean specifically those two. Owusu started 8 games at VT until she got hurt, then Kenny found someone else who could do her job while she was out. She either didn't cooperate with her rehab or something, didn't like being worked into the rotation gradually while she was healing maybe, and made it worse by idiotic tweets. She wasn't even on the bench at the FF, so either she flounced off and quit or was dismissed.

This. It always amazes me at why a kid will sign with a program when it's clear there will be several players at their position ahead of them in the pecking order. But I think it's difficult to be realistic when you've been the star of your HS team and whole league- you just believe you're 'the' stud.

This is a pretty interesting list of transfers for parsing:

There's some impressive quality on that list....and more to come!

My Duke wish list is the pair from Boston College - Gakdeng and Mair. They both fit Duke needs to a T - starting caliber PG & banging post. Adding a sharpshooter to this duo would turn Duke into a real contender next year, since Celeste Taylor is returning.

Gakdeng to the Tarheels.

Oregon star PG Te-Hina Paopao has entered the portal

Quote:
The lone remaining member of UO’s 2020 recruiting class, Paopao joins former Ducks Angela Dugalic (UCLA), Kylee Watson (Notre Dame), Sydney Parrish (Indiana) and Maddie Scherr (Kentucky) in leaving the program.

big surprise there. i could see her going back home to SoCal and teaming up with Juju Watkins at USC.
