Obviously going to come down to the money, but I could definitely see a season of that length, with that number of games, in an English-speaking country, being very appealing to American WNBA-level players. Would obviously leave no issues with WNBA Prioritization rules, as well.

They have made the season too long for a WNBA player to play in the whole thing and still get a Time-Off Bonus, though. 90 days on an overseas team is the max that can be allowed in those clauses.

^ Yeah, the last 2 seasons were impacted significantly by Covid, and it will be nice to hopefully return to a more normal one, but I think they've overcompensated and made it too long. They could have shaved a couple of weeks off the end.
Not that the needs of WNBA players should be a top priority, but I don't think such a sparse season benefits anyone.
The WNBL is effectively a weekend league, and we'll have 21 games in 18 weekends this season. I wonder if they're planning to break for 2 weekends for Christmas & New Year.

The French league took 47 more days to play one more game plus had two more weeks of playoffs. At least you're not that leisurely.

I didn't recognize the name, but I recognize Robbi Ryan from her ASU page. But didn't remember her as being good enough for All-PAC-12 as a senior and All-PAC-12 honorable mention as a sophomore.

The Sydney Flames beat the Melbourne Boomers 86-54 earlier today (10/24). This is the second exhibition game win for the Flames. They play against the South Side Flyers on 10/25. I tried to link the Tweet, but it would not work.

They had a win (91-75) over the Flyers too

I'd say WNBL pre-season results on average are worth even less than WNBA ones, but for teams like Sydney & Perth it's still nice to get some wins of course.

Season is now underway.
Last night I got to witness the unusual sight of Tiffany Mitchell & Kristy Wallace both nailing jumpshots at will as Melbourne piled on 104 points in Perth.
On the plus side, Sami was in old school Sami mode nailing threes all over the place to finish with 30.

Last night's game was not live streamed on YouTube (which might be for the best, because apparently telecast was embarrassingly terrible) but apparently most of the season will be.

Or if you have a VPN, turn yourself into an Aussie and sign up for channel 9's "9Now" streaming service. The first game of every round is on (aussie) ESPN, and every other game will be on 9Now.

I turned the VPN on for Australia, and 9 Now registration, but I do not see any of this weekends games listed on the TV schedule.

Perhaps you have a streaming link that I do not see?

I will also try the You tube WNBL stream to see if it comes there.

TIA

I noticed earlier today that when I searched for 'wnbl' on the 9Now app it came up with nothing, but when I searched on their website I got a page of upcoming games:
https://www.9now.com.au/womens-national-basketball-league-wnbl

The FIBA YouTube channel shows tomorrow's game (UC Capitals vs Bendigo Spirit) on their upcoming live games list
https://www.youtube.com/c/FIBA/streams
Hopefully this time tomorrow it will show Saturday's game, and so on...

Thanks, now I have to figure out the time change thingy. I think East coast Oz is 17 hours ahead of West coast USA, before we change the clocks.

I an in Central Time Zone, and Eastern Australia is 16 hours ahead right now, which will change to 17 hours on Sunday with the Daylight Savings change. So west coast will become 19 hours difference. Btw - I was able to watch today’s game this morning on the YouTube stream.

Although the result was not what I wanted, the Flames vs. Lynx game today was very enjoyable to watch! And YouTube makes it so easy to find and watch the games.

The result was very much what I wanted, so that evens things out a bit Wink

Sydney certainly played well enough to win. I thought they had the edge in the paint but failed to exploit it down the stretch.
Robbi Ryan has started the season with 15 pretty underwhelming quarters of basketball (thus being left out of the starting 5 for this game), but she really came up big in her 16th. That was tough.

Dekeiya Cohen is outta here
Quote:
The UC Capitals can today announce that Dekeiya Cohen has made the decision to part ways with the club, effective immediately.
The 26-year-old has chosen to return home to Charleston but said she is grateful for the opportunity presented in Australia.

Somewhere in New Zealand, Guy Molloy is looking into buying ferns that will thrive in the basements of internet posters.

The last couple of minutes of the semi-final - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC_nJA8B88k - was quite a finish if anyone wants to check that out. Although my first reaction upon loading it up was horror that they let teams play against each other in lavender and teal. Way too close.
