The W should make a new rule. The worst team that 'exceeds' the next worse team by 10 win or losses should automatically get the first pick. To hell with the lottery BS. The other three teams can draw for picks 2 thru 4. They can call it the Indiana rule. If Washington or Chicago get the #1 pick it would be a travesty.

Ummm, no. As a long suffering Sky fan, I suffered thru 7 years of ping pong balls without a playoff appearance, and no #1 pick. It would be karmic justice for the Sky to get the number one pick. Especially after all the ish that Phoenix pulled along their way.

The Sky wasted most of the picks they did get! The number of top 5 Sky picks no longer in the league (or hanging on by the skin of their teeth) is long. Seriously, the only team picking worse than the Sky have been the Fever. Not sure either team would have done much better with a #1 pick (which could easily have happened in one of the years in which there was no clear top player)

I am happy the Sky have finally found success - it just hasn't been through the draft. And don't kid yourself, it's not the fault of the ping pong balls, it's mainly been piss poor scouting of college talent translating to the WNBA. But, as bad as Chicago draft picks have been, they were not as bad as Catching's picks for Indiana.

Yes, drafting Broke Back Mountain was a complete waste of time.

It's also nice that folks actually want to play for the Sky these days!

I posted this prior to the 2021 draft.

I've been wanting to analyze (really, just list) the horrible results of Sky draft picks since 2013 (my first year as an STH) after reflecting on how most aren't even in the league anymore or barely lasted with the team. In some cases, they were roundly criticized as wasted picks that skipped players who would have met the team's needs better.

I think the results don't warrant much commentary. Y'all know what has happened!

2013: EDD, - , Brooklyn Pope
2014: Markeisha Gatling, Gennifer Brandon, Jamierra Faulkner Crying or Very sad
2015: Cheyenne Parker, Betnijah Laney, Aleighsa Welch
2016: Imani Boyette, - , Jordan Jones
2017: Alaina Coates, Tori Jankoska, Chantel Osahor (got Keisha Hampton), Makayla Epps
2018: Diamond DeShields, Gabby Williams, Amarah Coleman
2019: Katie Lou Samuelson, Chloe Jackson, Maria Conde
2020: Ruthy Hebard, Japreece Dean, Kiah Gillespie

2021: Shyla Heal, Natasha Mack, -

GMs have not done a great job on our behalf. Yet, we have persisted!

I believe the Dallas Wings will make the playoffs, There's WNBA 5 teams playing for 2 playoff spots, in my opinion.

I thought if NY swept both LA and PX they would be in for sure

now I think the last playoff spot and the last lottery spot will come down to who has the tie breaker between NY and Atl

Yes, in my opinion, Wings #6, Mercury#7 and the last playoff spot #8 will likely be between the Dream and Liberty, I'm giving the edge to the Liberty making the playoffs

Which teams fighting to make the playoffs can win at least two of their last three games? I can't decide if I want the Mercury to make the playoffs or fall into the lottery?πŸ€”

As notated above, Phoenix doesn’t control their first round draft pick. So the question is more β€œDo you want Chicago to have a lottery pick or not?” Although now I’m wondering if that would complicate Chicago’s cap issues/free agency conundra further.

Whether Howard is out or plays through pain, I don’t view it as likely that the Liberty will win any of their final 3 games. Their defense tonight was largely poor, and I don’t see that changing. Atlanta is challenged on offense but the Liberty don’t match up to their athleticism very well.

I was all for the Liberty making the playoffs as I don't think there is a huge difference between picks 2-5 in next years draft and I feel like it is Indy's turn for the #1 pick

With that said any confidence I had that the Liberty could possibly win a game or a series in the playoffs has wained so I am OK if NY ends up in the lottery now

(and while I wouldn't feel it is fair to other worse off teams I would be pretty excited if we fell all the way to Boston)

IMO for NY to make the playoffs now they have to sweep Atl and I agree that without Howard and Laney at full strength Atl is a match up problem for us.

Also would kind of like to See Minny in the playoffs if it is the last time we will see Fowles in the W.

That was the point I was trying to make. Should I want the Sky to face the Mercury in the first round or should they lose and the Sky get the lottery pick. Minnesota is probably the best team of the group that can climb into that eighth spot. They will be a tough out for the Sky in the first round of the playoffs.

Agree. In a first round three game playoff, no team will want to play the Lynx.
