Just curious why a McD's AA would sign with Clemson, a team that's been pretty consistently in the basement of the ACC for quite a few years. (Ruby Whitehorn)

it's always hard to tell what a kid is thinking. Maybe she thinks she can be a catalyst to turn the program around. Maybe she wants to be an immediate star and not wait for playing time. Maybe a relative went there. Maybe her boyfriend is on the football team. Maybe they convinced her they were the only school with the academic path she wants to take. Maybe she pulled a random number out of a jar. Lots more options. Wink

I feel called out. That's how I decided on my alma mater.

I noticed there’s not a single B1G signing on the list. Usually there’s a Maryland representative there.

Maybe she's a McD's AA and didn't get a lot of looks from bigger programs. I'm glad she did it.

She did thought at least I think Tennessee offered.

Perhaps she built a relationship with the coaching staff (Joy Cheek is a good recruiter). Or perhaps they had a relationship with the HC/AD of Detroit Edison (Monique Brown).

Well looking at the list, its not for a lack of midwest talent. And really you can expand it out eastwards in states with Big Ten schools, like there is a player from New Jersey headed to Tennessee. Not that Rutgers with no permanent head coach would get an all american, but maybe the others should be recruiting better.

So did JMU's Claire Neff. They left PDQ too.

So did Danaejah Grant, who ended up at St. John's.

The sad part...Clemson draws less crowds in a year than we do in a game....They are averaging 602 a game which puts them at 119th in attendance....It's hard to compete for players when there are 119 schools that have higher attendance. She will transfer out in a short time.

So did Danaejah Grant , and both left about the same time, before conference play had even begun, contributing significantly to Itoro Coleman getting fired as HC.

But as to the question of "why a McD's AA would sign with Clemson, a team that's been pretty consistently in the basement of the ACC for quite a few years," couldn't you have asked that same thing just a few years ago about, for example, Oregon or South Carolina? There's plenty of teams that have been mediocre or bad for while who have a turnaround for some reason and suddenly become a destination. Maybe a new coach, maybe a local star stays home. Maybe a combination of factors. Look at South Carolina. A charismatic new coach starts to build from nothing, and then a generational player (A'Ja Wilson) decides to try to build something at her home state school and not only signs but actively trys to bring other talent along.

And the rest is history.

I think it's neat when blue chip recruits pick schools off the beaten path! The game as a whole doesn't get better when everyone goes to the same handful of schools. Something's gotta start somewhere with someone.

Ain't nothing gonna happen at Clemson until Amanda Butler is gone, That's one thing. Need someone in there who can coach and someone who can recruit better. and keep their recruits. Obviously she can do neither, nor could the one before her.
