I hope the Vanderbilt that almost beat Arizona shows up tonight just so the game is a little more entertaining. It looks like a big mismatch on paper

South Carolina holds a 21-19 series edge against the Commodores - they are 14-2 against them under Dawn Staley, including a current 13-game winning streak going back to 2011 when Vandy won 74-60 in overtime in Columbia.

Much of the games used to be tight, tough typical SEC battles - usually wins by either team by 10 pts or fewer. After the Commodore program began its decline, wins by the Gamecocks started to get more outstanding - especially at home in Colonial Life Arena. They won by 30 in 2015, by 31 in 2017. The last 3 meetings in any venue in the past 2 seasons have been Gamecock wins of 36 pts, 51 pts, and 63 pts.

A good test of the direction of the program under Ralph will be to see how competitive her team will be tonight, and how hard they fight. It's still too soon to grade her program in her initial season, but we could see some flashes of the future......

Zia Cooke will not play tonight - she's dealing with a lower leg injury, but nothing more has been reported. Super Senior Lele Grissett started in Cooke's place.

Gamecocks lead 19-8 after 1st quarter. Grissett leads the way with 7 pts on 3-4 shooting, and 3 rebounds......

South Carolina leads 42-15 at the half. Grissett and Kamilla Cardoso lead the team with 9 pts each - Grissett on 4-7 shooting (plus 1-1 from the 3-pt. line - her first attempt behind the arc this season), Cardoso on 3-4 shooting, 3-3 at the FT line. The Gamecocks with 10 assists and only 5 turnovers at the half, so it looks like their work over the past week of down time on taking care of the ball is paying off thus far....
