Two of the biggest teams in the country who are accustomed to dominating opponents inside will now get to beat up each other. I wonder if Kelly Graves will use Phillipina Kyei more in this game. She only played 3 minutes yesterday, but I suppose that makes sense against a perimeter shooting team like Oklahoma. Kyei got extended minutes against Dixie State because Sabally was out. She actually looked pretty good – better than Prince. So, against Boston and Cardoso, it might be handy to have a solidly built 6-8 player with decent mobility coming off the bench. If nothing else, she can lean on people, bang bodies, and tire them out. This can be especially effective against opponents playing the second game of a back-to-back. We’ll see if Graves is willing to try it. Most coaches are conservative, and they don’t like messing with their usual rotation. They also fear that a freshman will freeze up in a big spot. The little I’ve seen of Kyei, she didn’t look scared, and she’s better than just a big stiff.

Gamecocks lead 27-14 after the first period of play. Zia Cooke leads the Gamecocks with 9 pts on 3-4 shooting, 1-1 from the 3-pt. line. The Gamecocks lead in rebounds 9-5, although Oregon leads in blocks 2-0. One was against 5-9 Cooke driving in to the Duck's 6-8 Kyei, who promptly and appropriately swatted it through a window. Don't do that, Zia.....

Gamecocks lead 44-26 at the halftime. Zia Cooke leads with 13 points on 5-7 shooting, and Laeticia Amihere adds 10 pts on 3-5 shooting, and 5 rebounds. The Gamecocks dominated on the boards 22-10 for the half, and hold the edge in points in the paint 22-16....

A massacre at the half in points and rebounds. Oregon is Custer.

Gamecocks 6-8 from the field to open the 2nd half. Oregon is in some trouble. Their guard play is hurting with Paopao out, and their bigs are also at a deficit with Sabally not available.....

Oregon goes off on a 13-0 run against the Gamecocks B-Team, and the Gamecocks lead 63-44 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. At one point it was 59-31, and turning into a laugher. But Gamecocks are still in control.....

Gamecocks empty their bench against the Oregon starters for the final 5 minutes, and obviously a lot of missed shots, turnovers, and fouls. After having the lead cut down to 19 by the end of the 3rd period, the Gamecocks worked it back up to 29 78-49 by the 4:28 mark of the 4th Qtr., then emptied their bench.
The Ducks out-scored the Gamecocks the rest of the way 14-2, but the Gamecocks win 80-63 to advance to the Battle 4 Atlantis Championship game against Connecticut.
Zia Cooke led the way with 20 pts on 6-9 shooting, and 2-3 from the 3-pt. line. She added 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Laeticia Amihere added a career high 18 pts on 6-10 shooting, with 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Aliyah Boston added 16 pts on 7-12 shooting, with 8 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal.
Bring on Connecticut......

Think they said resting her knee, but I'm not sure I recall exactly. |

NOTHING unexpected here. SC - even with their guard injury - seems poised to dominate.
I'm pretty big on Kyei; not too shabby, considering she didn't even play ball last year.
