Louisville won, 61-53 – though they only led by 3 at one point in the final 3 minutes. Regarding the Cardinals, I was probably most impressed by Liz Dixon's agility and face-up touch. She greatly outplayed who she was backing up, Olivia Cochran, as Cochran conversely had a really tough game. I hope Walz starts Dixon at some point, or at least gives her buckets of minutes, as I do think there's some WNBA potential there. She had a great freshman season at Georgia Tech like her twice-former teammate Elizabeth Balogun did, but just like her, she has faded quite a bit while at Louisville, which is unfortunate. Anyway, Kianna Smith on offense & Mykasa Robinson on defense also brought some needed veteran poise. Meanwhile, I was not impressed by Hailey Van Lith at all. She tried to force things too much and didn't display much patience – in other words, typical young player. Despite having a pretty big role as a freshman, it seems she still has a lot of growing to do now as the full-time PG. Ultimately, Louisville didn't look like a Top-10 team, but they'll probably still find themselves in it by the postseason.
As for us, we'd be a really interesting team if we either had a true PG on the roster (such as if Tameiya Sadler hadn't opted to transfer) and/or if we actually had a legit WNBA prospect on the team (sorry, Nancy ). That said, we can still become interesting if we finalize our identity & our rotations before it's too late. And if we can perchance find some sort of replacement for Nancy Mulkey out there by next season, the future could be looking bright.
