Reeve stated on her podcast that the team was going to go with only 10 players.
Sounds like they expect Collier back toward the end of the season.

Yeah, ten active players. There’s a minimum 11 players required on a roster, and Collier will be one of them.
I wonder if Collier will count as an injury exception if needed.

That’s considered crazy talk around here.

If Minny is going 11 including Collier the cuts will be rough
if you do the 6 guaranteed contracts, Collier and the PG spot of Clarendon/Dangerfield that leaves two roster spots with a total of 4 players from last years roster (Carelton, Banham, Shepard and Davis) not even included
Clarendon/Dangerfield
McBride
McCoughtry/Powers
(Collier)/Dantas
Fowles/Achonwa
If you have one perimeter spot and one front-court spot you've got
perimeter spot
Banham, Carelton, Davis, Turner
front-court spot
Shepard, Mack, (Carelton), (Davis)
four of the above will not make the final roster
and that doesn't even include picks #8, #13 or the possibility of Zandalasini (sp)
Would someone take one of the guaranteed contracts off their hands for a future pick?
Is Kone or Bell a possible deferral pick? (it seems like both might hope to play at some point in 22).
Is there a two for one trade out there for Minny? or a trade for a future asset?

At this point, it seems like most teams have too many players and would like to make a two-for-one deal or unload/defer their 1st Round pick. For cap constricted teams, throw in the fact that a low-level free agent -- previously cut or never drafted -- can be brought in for the minimum and is probably a better player if you need immediate help. These people have been working on their game overseas. The older ones have bounced around enough so that they've played every style of basketball imaginable. Overseas vets are more likely to come in and quickly learn your system than some college kid. That's why Phoenix, Chicago, and LA are treating draft picks like funny money.

In the next CBA perhaps there should be a discussion on having first round draft picks not count against the cap. That would be a way of encouraging teams to actually try to incorporate the babies...er rookies, into their lineups.

I'm assuming Maya Moore will not be returning in 2022, marking her 4 consecutive season of not playing the W. How long are teams allowed to hold the rights to a player? Forever, until retirement?

There's a limit on how many players' rights each team can cling on to - I'm pretty confident it's four, but it's one of those things league sources don't like to talk about much - but if they're in that group then the answer is forever. Plenty of players over the years have been sent qualifying offers after retiring. |

From what we've seen from Maya, it doesn't look like she is interested in coming back. And considering that at least the last I saw, she's very overweight (has anyone seen her recently?), for her to get into playing shape would likely take more than a year of hard diet and work. Could she do it? Maybe... but she would have to be really really inspired to do it. Doubtful. From Last July: https://www.wdio.com/sports/espy-awards-maya-moore-minnesota-lynx-paige-bueckers/6167346/

The Minnesota Lynx today announced that the team has acquired the 2023 first and second round picks from the Las Vegas Aces in exchange for Minnesota’s 8th and 13th overall (acquired from the Indiana Fever) picks in this year’s WNBA draft. |
Good trade on Reeve's end.
No earthly idea what Vegas is thinking here.
Have to think corresponding moves are coming from either/both team(s).

I like this for us. Neither player we drafted was going to make our roster, and now we have another pick in the 1st Round for next year's nice class - even if it's towards the bottom of the Round.
Or we have another couple picks to sweeten any deals in case we need to

JUST IN: Angel McCoughtry, a five-time All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, has agreed to terms to join the Lynx next week when WNBA free agency begins, a league source confirmed. Story from @BloodStrib |

Check free agency thread… |
Anyone know the current status on McCoughtry? If she can get healthy, I really believe this team can top last year's 22-10 season and vie for another playoff birth.

Shepard’s sorta playing with fire by being late with regards to keeping her spot. Maybe she’ll be getting the benefit of the doubt…

Or maybe they're hoping she's late enough that they can legally suspend her for the year, keep her for next season when Fowles is retired, but not have to use a roster spot on her this year. |

It’s a good plan – if she’s okay with not making money this summer.
Regardless of how they deal with her, I’m still rooting for Natasha Mack to make it, even after all these years*…
