I woke up and remembered that the Mercury won a playoff game on the road in which there was a stretch of missing 14 consecutive field goals. Wild.

Mercury won a Playoff game on the road after scoring only 9 points in the 2nd quarter.

+/- is more of a team stat. If you’re on a team with Griner and Turner, the effect from one player shouldn’t tear it down too much.

Technically, they aren't bad defensively on an individual level. From my understanding, Turner, BG and SDS have the highest defensive ratings on the team. They actually do well one on one. They struggle with their team defense. To me that's chemistry. You can see when they started to get chemistry during the season because they started to talk more on the floor. Excluding BG and Skylar from that. Turner and Kia Nurse literally are more engaged. |
Could also be a sign of poor defensive schemes - although of all the Sandy criticisms I have, I actually think she’s pretty good with the Xs and Os, so I’d be surprised if that was it.
Tbh, it wouldn’t surprise me if DT helps the team defense. She’s always been a good team defender, but even if her body can’t move like it once could, she’s vocalizing.
But I’ve noticed a huge improvement during the Mercury’s good stretch - and would even say that as of late offense, not defense, has been their issue. But that is just eye test.
Shades, probably Nurse. We were putting her on the other team’s best perimeter player most of the season, given we’ve needed Skylar’s offense.
