It seems AC/DC is the audio of choice when Australia takes the floor at Wukesong, in contrast with the endless Men at Work loop from 2006...

Penny and Loz are playing world class, no surprise there. I like the way the Opals flow with Tully out there. I hope Jan rests Loz in the 2nd half, but Belarus has some nice little shooters out there.
In other news, it looks like Lisa Lee Gifford, after regaling us with another story about her child, responds to dirty play accusations in her dull-as-dirty-diary.

I was kind of shocked by it considering they play a really physical game. It didn’t seem like it was any more physical than our games with Russia or Latvia. But just play our game and leave all the rest to the other team. Sorry for you up. |
So typical of her to take a sly, cheap jab. Can't wait until we put this silly old mare out to pasture.

Just realised we haven't seen a single minute of Erin Phillips. Is she hurt, or is she really buried that far down in the rotation? Probably an injury (seeing as everyone else has played), but I hope it's just something minor. They could use her energy when the games get tougher and more meaningful.

It was the same in the warm-up games.
She is out of favour for some reason. Not hurt as far as I'm aware.
I'd like to see her get some minutes before this one is over, assuming we maintain the margin. Just rude not to play her at all IMO.

Shouldn't LJ be out by now?

Yes, she should have been out several minutes ago. Especially since she's ona dodgy ankle. Why risk tweaking it?

If she gets hurt, this coach should be banished from basketball.

83-64 final score. Cruisy win to start the tournament.

I'm guessing they wanted to get some solid minutes into the starters with our next game being Brazil.
Still would have liked to see LJ sit earlier though.
She didn't look uncomfortable at all out there from what I saw, so it can't be too serious.

After watching this game, I'm persuaded that Belarus will go through to the quarters. Good team -- bronze medalist at last year's EuroBasket, ahead of Latvia, the Czechs and France. Leuchanka, Troina, Snytsina and Veremeenko are all solid. It's too bad they couldn't draft someone like Biba, because that's their one shortcoming in comparison with the elite sides...
