And of course, Tuck is also still on the roster (at least as of right now).
Some decision-makers in this League are obsessed with getting UConn players, even if the players in question haven't done shit.

I'm not sure I like this sequence of trades for any of these teams.
Minnesota makes the most sense. Mad Kiki wasn't exactly what they'd hoped for so they cashed in and got decent value.
Phoenix paid a hefty price for a mediocrity and a second year player coming off of a disastrous rookie season, both of whom play the same position as three of the Merc's four best players.
New York acquiring Howard and Whitcomb is baffling. That's the sort of move you make if you're a contender trying to get over the top. For the Lib it's the difference between winning 7-8 games and winning 10-11.
It certainly seems like Seattle could have done better for Howard and Whitcomb. Maybe the #1 pick will pan out. Herbert Harrigan could turn into something more useful. Right now it's underwhelming. |
Yeah....not feeling the Walker acquisition for Phoenix. She was worse than almost everyone on our bench last season, and is more expensive than all of our younger players. At least with Nurse we are getting some defense on the perimeter. Hopefully not having to be option 1 will take some pressure off.

I’d be very happy if I were Liberty fans. You still get a high first round pick. All Howard does win. Three championships in the last 4 seasons, with two different teams. Whitcomb is alright in the SEA system. We’ll see about the Liberty system. Talbot is getting thrown under the bus for some reason. She’ll probably do well under the warm & fuzzy SEA system.

Dallas now has picks #1, 2, 5, and 7. Something must be up. I can't see them using all those picks.

There are so many questions in this year's draft maybe they think if they take 'em all, they'll find one or two who are useful?

I think Dallas should trade that #1 pick to Indy for Lauren Cox.

New York must think that Howard is the franchise player that that one clown Lynx fan acted like she is. Because that's a trade that only makes sense if you think that Howard + a healthy Ionescu gets you from 2 wins to 22 wins.

I’d be shocked if PHX took on more than two of those picks if this is actually the case. Based on everything DT and the front office has said this off-season makes it seem as if contending is the goal. I’m thinking a player and a pick or two is more likely than taking a majority of those picks back.

Wasnt Hughes one of the coaches at the recent USA training camp in SC?

Yeah and KLS was there too

The Storm had so much success using a high (#2)pick for a slow footed UConn college star (KML), they figured to go one better giving up the top pick for Katie Lou....Quick ? Who is slower?

I'm really sad and mad and confused. I'm sad about Sami and Natasha but I assume those had to happen for money reasons. But we then traded the two quality assets we ended up with - this year's overall #1 and a first rounder in next year's (very good) draft - and traded both of them for assets of significantly less value?!?! I am stunned and shocked and mortified. They absolutely should have hung on to thetwo draft picks. If they don't end up getting something else out of this, somethow, I just don't know...I just dont...

Some real news ...
Seattle receives:
Katie Lou Samuelson
Mikiah Herbert Harrigan
Stephanie Talbot
A 2022 2RP from Dallas
A 2022 2RP from New York
Seattle loses:
Natasha Howard
Sami Whitcomb
A 2022 1RP from Phoenix
--------
No matter how you slice it, this is an awful deal., and it's hard to imagine this is the best Seattle could do for Howard and Whitcomb.
None of the three players the Storm got have shown the ability or potential to start for a title contender, and if one of the second round picks turns into a rotation player, that's a good outcome.
------------
New York receives:
Natasha Howard
Sami Whitcomb
The #6 Pick
New York loses:
Kia Nurse
Megan Walker
Stephanie Talbot
#1 pick 2021
A 1RP 2022 (then traded)
A 2RP 2022
------------
If you're the Libs, why not? Nurse might turn out to be a player, and the 2021 #1 might turn out to be a player. Walker is shaky and the 2022 1RP was from Phoenix, which should do well this year.
And you get a top-shelf player in return who is already thinking about running the pick-and-roll with Ionescu, Whitcomb (if she comes over) and the No. 6 pick, which might be a rotation player.
Low risk, high reward, though you never know if the young players and draft picks might come back to haunt you in 2024.
-----------------
Phoenix receives:
Kia Nurse
Megan Walker
Phoenix loses:
1RP 2022
#6 pick 2021
-------------
So assuming the No. 6 pick has the same value as Megan Walker (which seems reasonable), it's Kia Nurse -- who's had a good year in the WNBA -- for an eighth or ninth pick in 2022 (Phoenix has to assume they'll be good this year).
I'll do that deal, especially since Phoenix needs players now, not when DT is a year older. If Nurse bounces back to good player status, this is a steal. If she's 12 mpg, that's probably what they get in 2022 from the 1RP. And they need those minutes now.
-------------------
Minnesota receives:
A 2022 1RP from Phoenix (via Seattle)
Minnesota loses:
Mikiah Herbert Harrigan
-----------
A mid-level 2022 pick is probably the same value as Herbert Harrigan, and if Phoenix collapses, could be a gift. Canny move by Reeve.
-----------------
Dallas receives:
The #1 Pick
Dallas loses:
KLS
2022 2RP
------------
Don't quite get this. KLS is probably better than this year's No. 1 (though maybe Dallas has a plan), and the 2022 2RP is a roll of the dice.
So either Dallas got a good look at KLS and moved on, or has someone in mind for No. 1 (or another trade), or both.
Not much difference either way.
