Noticed that Phoenix issued Evina the number 4, which is Diggins-Smith's number. I realize there is no guarantee that Evina will make the final roster however, does this number issue serve to indicate to all that SDS is for sale?

Was she wearing 4 at her last stop? .com rosters often pick up the last number a player was wearing.

She wore #4 in Washington, yes. Possibly #2 as well, but definitely #4. That's probably it, because it'd be a pretty striking move to give out Diggins-Smith's number while she's still on the roster. Unless she's requested a different number herself, without it being mentioned anywhere.

Did SDS have her baby? I assume she's taking the whole season off.

Yes she has had the child a month or so ago.

How much value could SDS have when she sits out more than she plays. She might be finished with basketball for all practical purposes. it's not entirely impossible that she is also tired of the grind playing requires. I mean Moore decided to quite when she was perfectly capable of still playing on a high level.

Only Turner has played more games than Diggins for the Merc the last two seasons

Skylar Diggins-Smith On Welcoming Her Second Child And Handling 'Snapback' Pressure: 'Give Yourself Grace'

https://www.essence.com/lifestyle/skylar-diggins-smith-family/

Quote:
The Phoenix Mercury player still isn’t at the point where she’s in good enough shape to play a game, but she’s taking her time to get back on track. She also had the confidence of a mother who has performed a miracle twice, so she knows eventually she’ll be in optimal shape again.

“I’m not really worried about snapping back,” she shares. “I just want to enjoy this time with my daughter.”

She still has a year left on her contract right ? Does she sit this season out to be with her children and become a UFA next season ? Is that allowed ?

I believe so but I’ll defer to someone who understands the contracts more.

She can certainly sit out if she wants. How that affects her contract status is beyond me.

Could PHX core her if DT retires although she did state she's going 2 more years. I also believe once DT does retire BG will finish her career in Dallas.

Two children makes it tougher, although SDS has millions $ to afford daycare, baby sitters and nannies. And apparently her mother is a standout gem. Is her husband still in the service?

There is no way BG will want to play in y’alls high school gym to finish her career. Next.

She can’t be cored anymore as she has already reached her limit. However if she does sit out the entire season, since she didn’t play out the duration of her contract the Phoenix Mercury would still own her rights, if she plays this season she would then be come a free agent.
