I was watching field hockey last night and it started getting jerky on me, but I killed some tray applications and it got a little better.

I think you have to have a supercomputer to get it to work like TV does.

what's a tray application?

He means all the little background applications, including the ones that create little icons in your system tray along the bottom of the screen, most of which are unnecessary most of the time and just chew up memory.

If you're not running Windows, it doesn't matter.

If you are, check the bottom right of your screen. There's a lot of little icons down there, or are if you click the arrow that points to the left. That'll show what's running in the background. If you have something like WeatherBug or something that's useful but you don't need right now, you can turn it off and it'll return when you restart the computer.
